Position Summary
The Communications Manager will play an integral role in supporting KIPP Northern California’s communication needs. They will work cross-functionally throughout the organization, collaborating across Regional Support Office (RSO) departments and with school teams to design and implement a comprehensive internal communications strategy focused on delivering key organizational messages to staff and the board. 
 
Primary responsibilities will include project managing region-wide print and communications campaigns, including writing, compiling, and publishing internal communications content. An ideal candidate should be an excellent writer and have a passion for storytelling and social impact to help share the successes of the organization. They will report to the Managing Director of Communications. The position will be located at our office in downtown Oakland (BART accessible) with some travel to our 22 schools required. It is a hybrid role, with a required 2 days per week on site.

 

Primary Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Content Creation: 
    • Source, write, and publish high-quality emails and other narratives that communicate stories from the KIPP community to internal and external stakeholders, including staff, board, donors, and families.
    • Develop, edit, and proofread compelling copy that invests audiences in the organization’s mission and vision, including the annual report, recruitment materials, blog posts, and other external communications.
  • Social Media: Lead organic social media presence for the region on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
  • Website: Regular copy & compliance updates and accuracy audits, including regular language updates for SEO purposes.
  • Digital Asset Management: Manage the photo and collateral template library and maintain the organization’s brand and style guidelines.
  • Project Management: Manage team projects via Asana and Google Suite by coordinating with schools, other teams, as well as external vendors/partners while adhering to deadlines. 
  • Administrative: Process invoices, manage media release systems, and manage the story bank for the team to pull from throughout the year. 

 

Preferred Qualifications
Experience:
  • 3+ years of marketing experience, specifically in writing, content creation, and project management.

  • Have significant previous work experience managing marketing and/or communications functions in previous roles.

  • Are experienced and confident working with Google Suite.

Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands

 

Physical: Ability to navigate office and school campuses, and hold meetings in different spaces. Traditionally, much of the day involves sitting. Ability to access and utilize technology. Occasional lifting/carrying of equipment 1-20 lbs. Physical agility to move self in various positions in order to execute duties effectively, which may include kneeling, walking, pushing/pulling, squatting, twisting, turning, bending, stooping and reaching overhead

 

Mental: Stress of deadlines and normal work standards, ability to analyze problems and generate alternatives, work with interruptions, concentrate for long periods of time, read, calculate, perform routine math problems, memorize and recall objects and people.

 

Environmental: Office environment subject to mild interruptions and distractions. Occasional classroom/school environment and travel (15%). Adhere to KIPP’s health and safety guidelines as outlined by the CDC, CDE, and public health agencies’ recommendations.

 

Classification

 

This is a full-time, exempt position based on a full year calendar cycle and time off, located in our Regional Support Office with frequent travel to schools and districts.

 

The KIPP Regional Support Office operates in a hybrid fashion. This person in this position will be expected to work in person 2 days per week and remotely the remaining days.

Compensation
KIPP Northern California is dedicated to you and your family's well-being! We offer a competitive salary as well as a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and transportation benefits.
We benchmark annually against comparably-sized non-profit organizations in the regions where we operate, to offer competitive salaries. The salary range for this position is between $81,000 to $102,000. Most candidates would be compensated at $86,000.
