Mechanical Engineer Co-op Placement

Onsite Vernon, BC

12-month position starting May, 2026

Join Kal Tire as a Mechanical Engineer Co-op Student and help us design and enhance mechanical systems and equipment that make a real impact. You will gain valuable experience while contributing to the development of products used in demanding industries, such as mining.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Design, test, and evaluate mechanical and electromechanical systems and products by conducting research and applying mechanical principles.
  • Develop cost-effective equipment modifications to improve safety and reliability.
  • Create 3D CAD models and detailed shop drawings using SolidWorks.
  • Assist in developing prototypes and evaluating results to recommend design modifications.
  • Participate in mine site visits and collaborate with field operators to gather insights for product improvements.
  • Coordinate maintenance and repair services to ensure operational equipment reliability.
  • Stay current with industry developments by attending workshops, seeking out training, and expanding your technical knowledge.

Requirements

  • Enrolled into 3rd or 4th year of a bachelor’s degree studies in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent at an accredited institution.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and Lean Manufacturing techniques.
  • Experience or familiarity with 3D CAD modeling (SolidWorks) and Microsoft Office.
  • Practical, hands-on background with exposure to machining, fabrication, and assembly.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail and efficiency.
  • Able to work independently or within a team to meet deadlines and project goals.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to contribute in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Special Requirements

  • Ability to work full-time onsite in our Vernon Office location.
  • Successful candidates will be required to bring their laptop and project materials for the in-person project walk-through as a part of the interview process.
