SAP AI Core & GenAI Engineer

ABOUT THE ROLE

The SAP AI Core & GenAI Engineer is a specialist technical role responsible for designing and building custom machine learning models, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines, and Generative AI solutions that run on SAP AI Core within the SAP BTP ecosystem.

Operating within our SAP AI Consulting team, you will work on client engagements where standard SAP embedded AI use cases are insufficient, and bespoke model development or LLM orchestration is required. You will own the full ML lifecycle — from data preparation and model training through deployment on SAP AI Core and monitoring via SAP AI Launchpad.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, or related field
• 4+ years of experience in machine learning engineering or data science, with at least 1 year involving LLM / GenAI projects
• Hands-on experience with SAP AI Core and SAP AI Launchpad (configuration, deployment, monitoring)
• Proficiency in Python and common ML frameworks (scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face Transformers)
• Experience building RAG pipelines or other LLM orchestration architectures (LangChain, LlamaIndex, or similar)
• Familiarity with containerisation (Docker) and ML workflow orchestration (Argo Workflows or equivalent)
• Strong understanding of REST API design and consumption for AI service integration
• Proficiency in English (written & verbal)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience with SAP HANA Cloud vector engine or similar vector databases (Pinecone, Weaviate, Chroma)
• Knowledge of SAP Generative AI Hub and available foundation model catalogue
• Familiarity with MLOps practices: experiment tracking (MLflow), model versioning, CI/CD for ML pipelines
• Understanding of SAP BTP security model (XSUAA, IAS) relevant to AI service deployment
• SAP AI Core or SAP BTP certification
• Experience with enterprise data governance and AI ethics/responsible AI frameworks
• Background in data quality assessment and its impact on ML model accuracy

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Design and implement custom ML models and GenAI solutions (including RAG, fine-tuning, and prompt chaining) deployed on SAP AI Core
• Configure and manage SAP AI Core infrastructure: resource groups, Docker-based workflows, model deployments, and serving endpoints
• Use SAP AI Launchpad to monitor model performance, manage experiments, and govern the ML artifact lifecycle
• Build Generative AI applications leveraging SAP Generative AI Hub, accessing foundation models (GPT-4, Gemini, Mistral, etc.) through the AI Core gateway
• Develop Python-based ML pipelines using SAP AI Core SDK (ai-core-sdk), integrated with SAP HANA Cloud for vector storage and embedding-based retrieval
• Collaborate with the Business Analyst to understand AI use-case requirements and translate them into ML problem definitions and data requirements
• Perform data exploration, feature engineering, and model evaluation; produce model cards and performance documentation
• Support the integration of custom models into SAP Build and Joule workflows via REST APIs
• Evaluate and recommend open-source and commercially available AI/ML frameworks suitable for SAP BTP-hosted workloads
