ACCOUNTS PAYABLE SPECIAIST
POSITION SUMMARY
The role of an Accounts Payable Specialist involves providing financial, administrative and clerical support to the organization. This role requires excellent customer service and communication skills, attentiveness to detail and problem-solving skills to execute daily tasks effectively.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Research, reconcile and resolve a variety of routine inquiries concerning account status, including vendor statements, invoice discrepancies, credits, etc.
  • Assist with weekly check runs, monthly status reports, and closing, to ensure all records are accurate for month ends
  • File and code items such as invoices, vouchers, expense reports, check requests, etc., with correct codes conforming to standard procedures to ensure proper entry into the financial system 
  • Handle vendor correspondence, via phone and email, in a professional and timely manner
  • Perform other duties as assigned 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma
  • Valid Driver’s license 
  • Two years’ accounts payable experience
  • Must be well organized, detailed oriented, and a self-starter
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associate degree with major in accounting
  • 2 or more years of experience
  • Mining/manufacturing experience

  • Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Ability to interact with employees and vendors in a professional manner
  • Ability to follow up on pending issues
  • Strong problem-solving skills, basic accounting principles knowledge, documentation skills, research and resolution skills, data analysis and multi-tasking skills
  • Experience using MS Office, including Excel
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is typically performed indoors in an office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. Incumbents must be able to perform work that requires typing, reading, communicating, sitting for prolonged periods of time, standing, and walking. The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee:
  • Is regularly required to use hands to type, touch, handle, or feel
  • Is frequently required to stand and reach with hands and arms
  • Is occasionally required to walk, climb, or balance
  • May occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds
  • Will, at times, be exposed to loud noises
In the event that the incumbent visits an operations worksite, personal protective equipment including but not limited to head protection, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety shoes, high visibility clothing, and flame-resistant clothing may be required.
SCHEDULE
  • 9/80 schedule: Monday – Thursday, 9-hour workdays, Fridays worked, 8-hour workday, with every other Friday off. Schedule subject to change.
