Assistant Director of Athletics/ Marketing and Brand Enhancement

The Assistant Director of Athletics for Marketing, and Brand Enhancement is a vital leadership role that drives the department’s mission to excel in all forms of fan engagement by spearheading innovative marketing, broadcasting, and multimedia strategies. This position will be responsible for elevating the visibility, engagement, and fan experience through cutting-edge multimedia content, strategies and broadcasting excellence.
This successful candidate will oversee the marketing for all twenty-seven intercollegiate programs utilizing a multi-faceted approach, including: grassroots marketing, strategic marketing, digital and social media engagement, community engagement and fan engagement. This position will also support revenue generation, branding, and fan engagement to promote the mission and goals of the athletics department.
Major Areas of Responsibility
- Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing and brand enhancement strategy. Ensure that the strategy reflects the department’s values and vision for enhancing its digital presence.
- Develop, design, execute and assess strategic marketing plans with goal of increasing revenue generation, fan engagement and community exposure, with particular focus on revenue-generating sports of football, basketball (men’s and women’s) and ice hockey (men’s and women’s).
- Oversee the creation of engaging multimedia content, including videos, podcasts, and other digital materials.
- Determine the most effective channels and platforms for distributing multimedia content. Optimize the use of the department’s website, social media, email campaigns, and other digital outlets to maximize reach and engagement.
- Develop and implement in collaboration with the Director of Athletic Communications a communication plans to effectively convey values and messaging to the target audience.
- Ensure that all multimedia content, digital campaigns, and other communications align with the established brand identity and messaging.
- Collaborate with sports specific communication leads to ensure production cohesion.
- Oversees the marketing for all intercollegiate programs. Interacts and collaborates closely with external units to carry out direct sales and attendance initiatives at sporting events. Coordinates with external relations on collateral materials to ensure brand integrity.
- Grows fan support and departmental revenues by working closely with other internal Athletic and College departments.
- Develops and implements overall athletic department branding campaign to include advertising and promotional programs. Researches and directs initiatives that allow the department to better understand its consumer base and position in the entertainment and sports market in Worcester county.
- Develop strategies to enhance the overall fan experience, both in-person and through digital channels, ensuring that fans have memorable and enjoyable interactions.
- Establish effective communication channels to keep fans informed about upcoming events, news, promotions, and other relevant information.
- Oversee the production of live broadcasts, ensuring top-tier quality in terms of video, audio, and commentary. (ESPN/FloSports and Patriot League, Atlantic Hockey, and Hockey East). Ensuring that video quality meets broadcast standards of ESPN/Flo Sports and Patriot League, Atlantic Hockey and Hockey East.
- Oversee a broadcasting schedule that covers a wide range of events to maximize fan engagement and coverage.
- Oversee the creation and production of diverse and engaging digital content, including videos, podcasts, and other multimedia assets.
- Develop and maintain in collaboration with the Director of Athletic Communications an editorial calendar that outlines content creation schedules and themes, ensuring consistency and alignment with key events and season.
- Collaborate with various departments, including Communications, to coordinate multimedia content efforts and ensure a cohesive approach to branding and messaging.
- Other duties as assigned by the Deputy Director of Athletics
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's required; 3-5 years of experience.
- 2-3 years of experience in a production setting; experience with ESPN networks preferred
- Experience utilizing Adobe Premiere, AfterEffects and Photoshop or equivalent programs
- Extensive knowledge of digital media landscape, both technical and creative
- Experience in marketing, promotions, sales or tickets sales in collegiate, professional or minor league field
- Experience with Paciolan, Audience View or equivalent ticket/ digital marketing software.
- Experience managing a small team and working cross-functionally to achieve department goals
- Strong technical skills and ability to leverage emerging media
- Understanding of audio/video technology and ability to stay up-to-date on industry standards and advancements
- Ability to operate, maintain and teach others on necessary broadcast equipment, including but not limited to TriCaster, replay system, LiveText, AJT, camera operation, etc.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects effectively with tight deadlines
- Strong quantitative analytical ability; excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work as a member of a team
- Ability to multi-task, detail oriented and ability to work with diverse group of staff members
- Strong customer service with the ability to troubleshoot and handle pressure situations
- Ability to thrive in a diverse, fast-paced student-athlete service driven environment
- Willing to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed
- Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in related field; Previous Division I intercollegiate athletic experience in marketing, broadcasting, and/or related field.
