Special Markets Manager

The primary function of the Special Markets Manager is to grow the retail sales in the non-traditional marketplace (gift stores, museums, etc) by overseeing six commission rep groups and finding new prospects within their territories.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Manage six commission rep groups across the country

  • Present book lists to all rep groups seasonally
  • Take ownership of the NY NOW gift show two times a year as well as oversee other gift shows across the country
  • Create sales presentations and materials (including the Special Markets catalog) for commission rep groups
  • Provide customer service for reps and accounts, including questions on inventory, pricing, title information, and order tracking
  • Run and analyze sales reports to increase revenue in each territory
  • Develop strategic sales plans to develop new sales opportunies for the commission reps
  • Work with the Executive Director and other Special Markets team members to grow the non-traditional business across all channels within the department
  • Communicate directly with the customer to set up new accounts in the HBG system by sending out credit applications, discount schedules, and catalogs as well as process orders on a daily basis
  • Prepare and perform mailings to accounts and commission reps on a regular basis


  • At least 3-5 years prior publishing experience
  • Strong written and presentation skills are a must
  • Must be proficient in MS Word, Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint and have strong analytical skills and comfort working with numbers
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills and detail oriented.      
  • Ability to communicate and interact professionally with accounts, clients, and staff
  • Must be comfortable in a fast-paced sales department
  • The candidate must be agile and be able to perform multiple tasks on a daily basis
  • Must be able to travel (20-30%)
