Associate Publicist, Little, Brown Books for Young Readers

SUMMARY: 
The Associate Publicist will create and independently implement event and media efforts for Little, Brown Books for Young Readers authors and illustrators, working on titles for readers ages 0-18, while also supporting departmental processes within the Publicity team. The candidate should have an outcome-driven work ethic, excellent written and verbal communication skills, an ability to work independently as well as collaboratively, knowledge of the media industry, and a highly reliable focus on details and deadlines. 
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Responsible for implementing original and compelling publicity plans for titles each season through media campaigns, industry, and author events
  • Create press releases, pitch letters, and media lists with a goal of securing national and regional coverage in print, broadcast, and online outlets
  • Support select author tours, pre-publication buzz tours, media lunches, industry events, and local author appearances
  • Communicates with editorial and sales departments as part of a cohesive publicity effort for each title
  • Strengthen and develop media and bookstore contacts
  • Foster strong relationships with LBYR authors and illustrators
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED: 
  • B.A. or B.S. in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications or related field
  • 1+ years’ experience working in a professional public relations or media environment, preferably in children’s publishing
  • Established relationships with media contacts who cover books, preferably children’s books
  • Effective communication skills (oral & written) for interactions with media, authors, and in-house constituencies
  • Proven ability to work well under pressure with tight deadlines
  • Should have a passion for books, particularly children’s literature, and knowledge of the bookselling & publishing industry
  • Ability to work well independently as well as in collaborative team environments
  • Self-motivated, persistent, goal-oriented individual
  • Effective organizational and project management skills

The compensation for this position is $53,200. Salary can vary based on a number of factors including skills, experience, and location — talk with your recruiter to learn more. There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects.
