Summary/Objective

The Field Technician will be responsible for implementing IPM practices to determine scouting needs for all crops.  They will focus on effective and efficient management of field pest populations.  They will use knowledge of Agronomy and observations made in the Field to collaborate with team members and customers to achieve highest quality crops and yields. 

 

Essential Functions

 

  • Oversees planning, strategy, and execution of field scouting activities
  • Walk Fields of Customers to monitor crop health during growing season
  • Identify pest problems, make recommendations for control, and develops cost-effective, environmentally sound methods to control pests and enhance yields
  • Deliver detailed reports to the sales rep and customer
  • Assist Precision Ag Tech with data management, drone applications, calibrations, soil/tissue sampling and trainings
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining relationships with growers, sales reps, and vendors
  • Serve as technical expert across a broad range of field activity
  • Promote health, safety, and environmentally friendly practices
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, label requirements, and published economic thresholds for pests
  • Support the department with other related functions as needed

Required Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in agronomy, agribusiness, or related field
  • Valid driver’s license; must be able to meet a Motor Vehicle Review in accordance with Company policy
  • Pesticide Consultant License for Entomology

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  Proficient knowledge of agriculture and/or horticulture and/or a farming

 Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills 

 Proven ability to work with others to accomplish objectives

  • Some technical ability
  • Ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Proficient computer skills (MS Office Suite)
  • Ability to perform the essential functions in a safe, yet productive manner

Work Environment

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in both field and office work environments.  Physical work in the field may require exposure to outdoor environmental conditions, such as climate changes, wet conditions, loud noises, exposure to heavy machinery, chemicals and other common agricultural hazards.  May have to operate an ATV.

 

Physical Demands

 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

 

Regular use of the telephone and e-mail for communication is essential.  The employee will be required to talk or hear when interacting with others.  Sitting for extended periods and the use of hands to finger is common. In field conditions, medium-level lifting, up to 50lbs. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to perform extensive walking and perform repetitive bending & kneeling as necessary.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. 

 

Travel

 

Position will require frequent travel throughout a specified area of the South-Central region.  Overnight travel is rare for this position.
