POSITION SUMMARY:

The Nurse Lead is responsible for directing, organizing, and supervising the work of nursing and medical assistant staff.  This position coordinates efforts to ensure that effective patient care is provided and that quality standards are met.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The Nurse Lead will perform both supervisory and clinical nursing duties. In collaboration with providers, they will coordinate patient care, assist and support the provision of medical and nursing care throughout the clinic.

 

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

 

Management Responsibilities

  • Assures quality of care by developing and interpreting Equitas Health philosophies and standards of care; enforcing adherence to state board of nursing and state nurse practice act requirements and to other governing agency regulations; measuring health outcomes against standards; making or recommending adjustments.
  • Collaborates with top management, interdisciplinary teams and other stakdholders in order to develop, implement and evaluate programs and services.
  • Protects patients and employees by developing and interpreting infection-control policies and protocols; enforcing medication administration, storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
  • Evaluates performance of clinic team; monitor competencies and provide feedback; provide regular supervision.
  • Coordinates work schedule for clinic team, including approving time off and coverage for absences. Interview and select candidates for clinic team.
  • Ensure vitals, health histories, phlebotomy, immunizations, injections, health screenings, and overseeing medication refills, prior authorizations and referrals are completed in a timeline manner.
  • Coordinates care with physicians and nurse practitioners.
  • Identifies and works to improve training needs of staff and process improvement needs of team.
  • Applies evidence-based healthcare practices and nursing standards.
  • Runs reports and analyze reports for trends or concerns.
  • Ensures operation of medical and administrative equipment by verifying emergency equipment availability; completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
  • Maintains nursing supplies inventory by studying usage reports; identifying trends; anticipating needed supplies; approving requisitions and cost allocations.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Maintains a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information; responding to requests; building rapport; participating in team problem-solving methods.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed

 

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Identifies patient service requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients and other persons in a position to understand service requirements.
  • Promotes patient's independence by establishing patient care goals; teaching and counseling patient, friends, and family and reinforcing their understanding of disease, medications, and self-care skills.
  • Provides information to patients and health care team by answering questions and requests.
  • Resolves patient needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies.
  • Conducts nurse visits, triage patients, and coordinate care with physicians and nurse practitioners;
  • Applies evidence-based healthcare practices and nursing standards;
  • Assists with Transgender patients, as defined by the Lead Nurse Practitioner
  • Maintains accurate, complete health care records and reports.
  • Administers medications to patients and monitoring them for side effects and reactions.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and other Qualifications:

  • Ohio licensure as a Registered Nurse
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred, but not required.
  • Certification in CPR/BLS.
  • Five years or greater experience in a medical setting with two years’ supervisory experience.
  • Excellent customer service, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to work efficiently under time constraints.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to work collaboratively with a large team.
  • Able to handle multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Thorough knowledge of nursing practice standards.
  • Must have sensitivity to, interest in and competence in working with people from a range of cultures, people living with HIV/AIDS and the LGBTQ community. 
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications and other computer applications required.
  • Epic experience preferred.
  • Reliable transportation, driver’s license and proof of auto insurance required.
