EPCOR’s Commercial Services group is hiring a Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator [Full Time Permanent] to join the Commercial Operations team working out of Evan Thomas Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) location, Kananaskis, AB. Reporting to the Lead Hand Operator, Evan Thomas Operations, and the Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator is boots on the ground and safely runs the day-to-day operations of the Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants as well as the distribution and collection systems and laboratory while meeting all internal and external reporting requirements and quality standards. Additionally, you will perform assigned duties in compliance with the International Standard Organization (ISO) 14001 certified Environmental Management System that has been implemented at the Kananaskis site.

 

What you’d be responsible for

 

·          Operating and troubleshooting water treatment and wastewater treatment plants and distribution and collection systems.

·          Performing laboratory sampling and adjusting process controls to determine chemical feeds, detention times, and hydraulic loading for plant operation. 

·          Collecting laboratory samples and data to generate and analyze reports (i.e. monthly/annual reports, safety reports, regulatory reports, operational reports, and financial reports).

·          Reviewing processes to identify necessary adjustments to optimize water quality, quantity, and reliability.

·          Overseeing the treatment and disposal of sludge as well as reading and updating record system drawings. 

·          Developing Standard Operating Procedures and maintaining internal quality standards.

·          Fulfilling requirements for the facilities’ Alberta Environment Approval and Alberta Infrastructure contract terms.

·          Supporting maintenance staff and performing routine maintenance tasks such as lubricating, completing operational adjustments, and cleaning equipment; flushing and cleaning of mains; and maintaining daily logs.

·          Managing external contractors while promoting safety and following all required internal and external regulations.

·          Participating in internal and external compliance audits while ensuring working procedures are performed in compliance with EPCOR safety standards, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001 standards.

 

What’s required to be successful

 

  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum of Level II certification in Wastewater Treatment, and / or Water Treatment, Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection is required.
  • 3 – 5 years plus of experience in a water or wastewater treatment plant and distribution and collection.
  • Strong working knowledge of Canadian health, safety, and environment (HS&E) regulations and International Standards Organization (ISO) 9001 and 14001 standards.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands and activities inherent to the work performed, as well as to function effectively outside under a variety of weather conditions and through all seasons.
    • Please note that due to the nature of this position you will be required on occasion to wear a ½ mask respirator.
  • Must have a valid Alberta Class 5 Motor Vehicle Operator's License
    • A clean driving record. with 6 or fewer demerits.
    • Ability to qualify for and maintain a valid EPCOR driver's permit.
    • A 5-year Commercial Drivers Abstract may be required at the time of hire.
    • We are not accepting drivers with a GDL license.
  • Since you will be on call, you be required to be located within 1 hour commute of our Evan Thomas WWTP in Kananaskis.
  • Able to demonstrate a strong drive for results; can collaborate, work with a diverse team of operators.
    • Demonstrable experience leading other operators will be considered an asset.
  • A safety advocate with an unwavering commitment to safe work practices, quality service and excellence.
  • The following would be considered an asset:
    • Demonstrable proficiency in using Microsoft applications (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and data visualization tools such as Power BI.
    • Adept at using asset management software like IVARA, control systems such as SCADA, and specialized software management systems like HACH Water Information Management System (WIMS).

Wage: is on a matrix scale recognizing Certification levels and will be determined at the time of offer

  • Final wage and step will be determined at the time of selection and is based on a combination of factors as outlined on the wage grid.

Hours of work: 8-hour shifts; 40 hours weekly from 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM on weekdays.

  • Overtime, weekends and holiday work may be required depending on process events that occur.
  • 24-hour on-call shifts in rotation will be required once the candidate has acquired sufficient plant experience.
  • Shifts may change depending on plant needs.

Relocation: EPCOR may provide relocation assistance for the successful candidate and is based on the candidates’ requirements and meeting the eligibility requirements as outlined in EPCORs Relocation guide.
