We’re looking for a Cytotechnologist to join our Cytology team in Brampton, Ontario. You will be responsible for delivering in a timely manner the highest level of clinical and scientific quality to everyone we serve with a variety of testing using the latest technology. Your contributions will make a difference – the results and reports you deliver will be provided to physicians and greatly impact the downstream solutions and treatment critical to saving someone’s life.    

 

Status: Permanent Full-Time

Vacancy Type: Existing 

Shift: Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. (Rotational Shift)  

Department: Cytology  

Work Style: Onsite

Location: 115 Midair Court, Brampton, ON

How YOU will make a difference:     

  • Perform the initial microscopic diagnosis of disease by assessing the structural changes in normal and diseasesaltered
  • cells. Cellular criteria of different organs are efficiently and meticulously examined to establish the
  • presence of cancerous or pre-cancerous lesions and a variety of benign entities
  • Determine if specimen is negative or if it exhibits any abnormalities. Abnormalities are further classified according to the degree of their severity often based on very subtle changes
  • Ensure that negative gynecological specimens are diagnosed and released without pathologist review following specific laboratory protocol
  • Ensure that non-gynecological and abnormal gynecological specimens require an initial diagnosis and are then reviewed by a Pathologist before final sign out
  • Ensure sample identification is correct and monitor the quality of cytopreparatory techniques to ensure specimen adequacy
  • Review correlation between cytology and histology patient results. In case of discrepancy, intervene to follow-up with a Pathologist or a Clinician to assist in further patient management
  • Responsible for communicating all verbal reports to Clinicians
  • Train and oversee the work of Clinical Laboratory Assistant in new preparation techniques, new procedures, staining, etc.
  • Coordinate the distribution and the return of previously prepared cytological specimens from other satellite locations of Dynacare when required
  • Responsible for consistency and accuracy of all final negative reports released
  • Participate in the review of all high-risk cases and quality control from all Cytotechnologists including work of newly hired Cytotechnologists
  • Ensure quality control checks are run and reviewed when testing
  • Responsible for the correction of any violation of quality control guidelines
  • Participate in all internal and external quality control programs
  • Follow-up on missing samples, documentation, results, etc. as and when required
  • Review work of newly hired Cytotechnologists as and when required
  • Participate in the training and teaching of students of Diagnostic Cytology programs, if required
  • Participate in the review and updating of quality assurance protocols, if required
  • Ensure that all inquiries and problems are handled in a courteous and professional manner
  • Liaison with department management to assist with non-routine problems or concerns
  • Responsible to follow all relevant pre and/or post analytical QA protocols as described in the company QA manual
  • Contribute towards Dynacare's learning and knowledge based culture by sharing in the responsibility of training and skill development of new team members as requested     

What YOU bring to the role:      

  • You thrive independently, applying sound decision making principles and ability to self-manage in fast-paced environment
  • You bring a high level of interpersonal skills and you are a natural fit within a collaborative working environment
  • 4-year undergraduate Degree in Bachelor of Science or General Medical Laboratory Science Certificate
  • CSMLS certification in diagnostic Cytology
  • CMLTO Registered Medical Laboratory Technologist certification  

Nice to have:

  • Histology Techniques: Experience in tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and slide preparation.
  • Molecular Diagnostics:  Experience modern molecular techniques—such as PCR and viral or HPV testing.

 

Working Conditions:     

  • Normal office environment
  • Medical laboratory environment
  • Required walking with repetitive motions
  • May sit or stand for prolonged period of time with extensive computer use
  • Required to lift a maximum of 30 pounds as required 
  • Exposed to biohazardous substances, temperature differences and noise variances 

Pay rate: $35.00-$38.75 per hour

The hiring pay range has been established; however, the final pay offer will be determined by taking into consideration various factors including but not limited to, level of experience and education requirements.
