Photo Editor, PEOPLE
This assignment posting is for an Agency Worker opportunity with Dotdash Meredith. The Agency Worker is paid by a staffing agency employer. Agency Workers will receive a W2 from the staffing agency reporting their earnings for tax purposes.
PEOPLE.com is seeking a Digital Photo Editor to join our Photo team. The ideal candidate is a problem solver with a passion for creative and innovative visual storytelling, as well as a deep love and knowledge of photography, celebrity and pop culture/current events. This is a freelance position, M-F 10am-6pm ET.
This role will provide photo coverage for both PEOPLE.com and EW.com:
- 50% Responsible for researching, licensing, and editing/preparing photos for publication across both sites, fielding a high volume of photo requests daily under tight deadlines
- 20% Work closely with the editorial team to illustrate various stories/features and pitch interesting photos
- 20% Create unique photo content including large format galleries and composite art for various platforms across both brands
- 10% Cover on-call shifts for off-hour photo needs and provide photo support for award shows and other special events as well as fill in for team as needed
Skills and Qualifications:
- Possess an interest and knowledge of photography, celebrity, current events and pop culture
- Must have an advanced and keen eye for photo selection
- Excellent Photoshop skills (must be proficient in retouching techniques such as color correcting, silhouetting, layer masking, image sizing, and attention to fine details)
- Proficient in Adobe Suite, CMS, DAM, Agency relations
- Must be a problem solver! Quick thinking and resourceful; be able to work autonomously with the capability to prioritize multiple projects with fast turn-around times
- Must possess advanced knowledge of photo agencies, pricing structures and licensing terms
- Must have basic knowledge of copyright law and discernment of social media risk
- Must have knowledge of and interest in pop/celebrity culture and other topics covered on People.com/EW.com
- Must have flexible schedule and be able to work some early mornings, nights, weekends and holidays
- 3-5 years experience photo editing for a major entertainment/news website and/or relevant work experience
