News & Deals Commerce Editor

 

The Commerce News and Deals team at People Inc. is looking for a sharp, experienced digital editor to edit shopping stories at the intersection of beauty, celebrity, and style for InStyle.com. This person will edit multiple stories per day on a timely basis, ensuring clean, optimized copy in the InStyle voice.  

 

The ideal candidate is a self-starter who is passionate about shopping and product recommendations, especially in the beauty and fashion space, and knowledgeable about trending, keyword-driven content and parsing data to make informed editorial decisions.

 

Assignment Details: 

 

40 hours a week
Start date: ASAP
End date: 4-6 months with potential to extend
Hourly Rate: $37-40
Location: Remote - US

 

Assignment Responsibilities:

 

  • Edit at least four shopping stories per day for InStyle, moving quickly to keep up with the pace of news and making timely decisions to keep the team moving forward
  • Occasionally pitch and write articles, with the primary focus of generating affiliate revenue
  • Update existing documents when needed, using style guide, data insights, and editorial judgement to make accurate revisions 
  • Use data and analytics to brainstorm and guide content decisions
  • Monitor social media (TikTok, Instagram, etc.) for commerce opportunities including celebrity recommendations and viral products
  • Work collaboratively with writers and editors, as well as those on corresponding teams, to meet shared objectives
  • Attend and participate in weekly team meetings

 

Skills/Experience:

 

  • At least 2 years of experience in the digital editorial space for an online publication
  • Knowledgeable about the InStyle voice; interested in or familiar with style, beauty, and pop culture/celebrities 
  • Experience with commerce content and affiliate linking
  • Comfortable with digital media metrics and tools, such as CMS platforms and Google Analytics
  • Familiar with SEO and affiliate linking best practices
  • You’re a quick learner who is excited about commerce media, eager to take on new challenges, and able to identify new content opportunities
  • You’re a flexible, organized person who is able to handle multiple tasks at once, and seamlessly pivot and re-prioritize tasks as needs change 
  • Ideally, you have a bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field 
  • Applicants who share links of recent work (personal social, business, or portfolio) will be prioritized
