Responsibilities of the Role: 

  • The qualified candidate will Interpret state and federal regulations and coordinate with production departments to develop and document sound environmental practices and initiatives, including modifications to permits as necessary. 
  • Support and conduct testing to verify compliance and accuracy of monitoring equipment.
  • Monitor compliance to permits and document abnormalities. 
  • Communicate performance and report findings both internally and externally. 
  • Facilitate change to improve business practices with new technologies or programs.
  • Manage all environmental issues, reports and permits as related to Air, Wastewater, Storm Water, Residual Waste, TRI, Tier II and Hazmat Reporting. This includes responsibility for the timely and accurate filing of necessary records to demonstrate compliance with applicable federal, state, and Domtar’s programs.
  • Develop and execute management systems designed to ensure the plant is in compliance with all Domtar’s, local, state, and federal environmental regulations and that continual improvement, pollution prevention, and compliance are a part of the plants main goals.
  • Coordinate and manage all on-site hazardous materials (waste management and scrap management) as well as develop and maintain recycling programs.
  • Maintain all records and documents as necessary.
  • May assist with other EHS related duties as assigned.
  • May perform compliance training for EPA, HAZMAT, and other in-house personnel.
  • May perform hands-on environmental monitoring and measurement.
  • Effectively champion the integration of Human Performance principles and tools into environmental processes.

 

Qualifications: 

  • Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in environmental, pulp and paper or chemical engineering.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience.
  • Strong analytical, trouble shooting and decision making skills.
  • Must be able to clearly define objectives and be effective in involving others in the achievement of those objectives.
