Production Technician (Backstand) Starting at 21.62 Per Hour

Statement of Role:
Reporting to the crew leader, the reserve performs the general plant housekeeping handling of rolls and waste, and works closely with other crew members to insure production is safe, efficient, and at lowest possible cost.
Routine Primary Tasks:
1. Insure that all house keeping problems made on your shift are cleaned up.
2. Mop or seep the plant floor as necessary to maintain a clean and safe operation.
3. Empty trash cans and hoppers when needed and at end of shift.
4. Keep the baler area and sheeter backstands clean and free of materials.
5. Properly store all materials received during the shift.
6. Keep break room picked up and orderly.
7. Perform housekeeping tasks as directed by the crew leader.
8. Communicate verbally and in writing to your relief and your crew leader.
9. Report to work on time.
10. Properly clock in and clock out.
11. Have good attendance.
12. Works as member of a team under concept (to include the larger plant team as well as shift teams.
13. Insure truck drivers and other non-Domtar personnel stay out of unauthorized areas.
14. Know and abide by all general plant rules, policies and procedures.
15. Proper train new employees.


Safety:
1. Abide by all safety rules and regulations as set forth in the Safety Program, House Rules, and Emergency Crisis Plan.
2. Correct any unsafe condition or act immediately. Report to your crew leader as needed.
3. Report all accidents and injuries to your crew leader promptly, obtaining first-aid as required. Complete necessary paperwork before the end of shift when possible.
4. Follow the equipment lock out procedure.
5. Do not tamper with any safety device.
6. Do not bring or use intoxicants or narcotic drugs on plant property or be under the influence on plant property.
7. Keep materials picked up from floor to insure slip and trip hazards are minimized.
8. Operate lift trucks in a safe manner.
Quality:
1. Perform all assigned quality control duties and assist other crew members in monitoring quality.
2. Inspect rolls before and during stripping for any defects. Report any defects to the crew leader or sheeter operator as applicable.
3. Insure materials that may contaminate scrap paper are disposed of properly.
4. Properly store and wrap defective rolls that the crew leader rejects.
5. Understand all quality control specifications pertaining to the reserve classification.
6. Never knowingly ship any defective product.





Production:
1. Maintain designated equipment in good operational condition. Inform your crew leader of any repairs that can not be made during your shift, recurring problems that interfere with run ability, and repairs made during the shift.
2. Insure balers do not run out of wire. Insure dust barrels do not become overfilled. Notify crew leader when barrels need emptied.
3. Help with the running of operations, such as clearing sheeter jams, filling body or lid hoppers, putting labels in, helping with start-up, etc.
4. Insure roll changes are carried out efficiently with minimum yield loss and provide assistance as needed.
5. Control and reduce lost time on line.
6. Control costs.
7. Operate baler and make a properly tied bale without shutting down the sheeter.
8. Stage rolls and prepare for running. Keep sheeter operator informed of any abnormal roll conditions.
9. Give proper relief on the job to the oncoming reserve. Always have relief in good operating condition.
10. Give proper relief as designated by the crew leader in areas you’re are qualified. Maintain area while in relief.

We are seeking skilled individuals to operate our equipment, systems and processes.  Position Description:

Upon hire, qualified candidates will be required to safely perform the following: lift truck and paper roll clamp truck operation, preparing raw material (roll stock) for production, housekeeping, manage waste and scrap programs, assisting other team members and other general duties as assigned or required.

 Position Requirements:

  • Must provide proof of forklift operator certification.
  • Must have a School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
  • Must read, write, and understand English.
  • Must be willing and able to meet the demands of a 24/7 operation, including working 12-hour rotating shifts (7am-7pm and 7pm-7am). Upon being placed on a crew, you will work a Dupont schedule which includes a 7-day “long off” each month. Overtime opportunities are encouraged for continuous training and filling unscheduled tour vacancies.
  • Industrial experience preferred; must have worked full or part-time for two years within the last four years.
  • Good mechanical troubleshooting skills; basic computer and communication skills.
  • Must proactively support efforts to assure a culture of safety excellence.
  • Able to frequently lift up to 30 lbs.; occasionally lift up to 60 lbs.

Must successfully complete a selection process that includes aptitude tests, board panel interviews, and employment background investigation; pre-employment drug and alcohol screen and fitness-for-duty test.

Starting rate is $21.62 oer hour plus applicable shift premium and the opportunity for overtime.
