Director, Strategic Capital

Location - Remote

 

The Director of Strategic Capital will provide the leadership, development and organizational structure for an engineering group and technical team that provides assistance and effective capital utilization across PE manufacturing operations.  The incumbent will lead the development / implementation of innovative, business-focused initiatives to enhance the overall performance of the Company. Experience and history of success with Front-End-Loading Project Execution Process is important aspect.

 

Key Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Strong analytical, communication and problem solving skills and the ability to work with all levels of management and across multiple and varied functional teams from working to executive level.
  • Lead the effort to identify, investigate, recommend, and implement equipment improvements, new system and process installations, and conversion / repurposing of existing assets for the Packaging business.
  • The development of equipment standards and specifications.
  • The development of consistent construction safety standards and expectations.
  • Lead the development and execution of a clear vision and strategy within the Packaging organization.
  • Audit and inspections – construction practices and efficiency.
  • Build productive and constructive relationships with the business units to deliver top and bottom-line results.
  • Compile, prepare and present information for updates to senior management.
  • Principal communicator and coach responsible for staffing, career development, performance management and succession planning at all levels of the organization.
  • Support human resources in identifying personnel or promotions, identifying key skills necessary for job functions within the department.
  • Knowledge and experience with FEL Project Execution.

 

Operational Excellence

  • Assist in the development and execution of major capital projects across the Domtar system.
  • Lead the consolidation of engineering, technical and equipment standards, and specifications.
  • Document and ensure application of capital project best practices.
  • Assure involvement of appropriate company expertise in procurement and other aspects of the project.
  • Ensuring sound engineering principles are employed through effective use of FEL process (Front End Loading)
  • Ensuring company processes, standards and specs are applied.
  • Driving project frugality and functionality
  • Identifying and encouraging the use and sharing of internal resources to staff projects
  • Ensuring that use of engineering and other consultants is justified and minimalized.
  • Identifying opportunities for re-application of available assets from facilities
  • Ensuring assumption of an appropriate level of risk in order to maximize capital effectiveness.
  • Provide strategic and tactical leadership in the areas of safety, asset reliability, cost optimization, quality capability, productivity and strategic capital planning and execution.
  • Build develop and lead the team to create a sustainable competitive advantage.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Implement multi-prong horizontal and vertical business and manufacturing strategies which improve safety, customer satisfaction, quality, cost, and delivery across multiple processing functions.
  • Leading the budgeting process and working with finance teams to align resources by strategic initiatives.
  • Develop strategy to ensure cultural acceptance of new manufacturing principles, including CI, employee training programs, preventative maintenance, and cost saving initiatives.
  • Identify, develop, and execute capital improvement projects including equipment installation and expansions that support business objectives.

Required Qualifications/Professional Experiences Years/Certifications:

  • B.S. in Business Administration, Industrial Management, Engineering or relates areas; MBA, ISO training, Six-Sigma training highly beneficial.
  • 10+ years of proven and relevant experience to include leadership roles.
  • Networking with the industry
  • Ability to lead, build and develop the organization, processes and procedures to support strategic direction.
  • Ability to establish initiatives for improvement in safety, quality, cost, deliver and employee relations.
  • Strong systems and process development and deployment
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and influence people to get results.
  • Problem analysis and resolution at both the strategic and functional level
  • Strong business acumen and working knowledge of business operations.

  • Ability to travel 50%+ based on current projects and need of the business.

 

Preferred Qualifications/Professional Experiences/Years of Experience:

  • The ideal candidate will possess a demonstrated track record of success in leading complex capital projects across a multi-site manufacturing organization to support overall performance improvement as well as ensuring the consolidation and utilization of engineering best practices and technical standards and approaches across the manufacturing system.
  • The ideal candidate will have had broad career experiences outside of manufacturing such as supply chain, engineering, or other support functions.
  • Detailed experience in development of Project Approval Presentations and Requests up to Company Leadership – used for advancing FEL.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
