To learn more, visit www.domtar.com.  Domtar’s Packaging mill in Kingsport, TN is searching for an experienced Reliability Mechanical Engineer.

This position is part of the Kingsport Packaging Mill Maintenance Team and plays a critical role in the overall reliability and performance of manufacturing and infrastructure equipment. The Reliability Engineer’s primary purpose is to lead the team of hourly and contract employees to maintain and improve the mill’s asset base.  This will be done using predictive and preventative maintenance technology including but not limited to tools such as vibration analysis, infrared, ultrasonic, precision lubrication, and motion amplification (high speed camera).

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinates equipment and facility maintenance / repairs with Operations and other key personnel to:
    • minimize downtime;
    • ensure work is properly and safely completed and in a timely manner;
    • preventative and predictive technology work will be primary focus
  • Collaborates with Operations Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent and other key personnel to plan work assignments, schedule projects, and determine cost estimates / budget.
  • Identifies and implements improvements in process and equipment reliability across the Mill by working closely with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering personnel.
  • Supports maintenance team by assisting with resolving technical issues and repair procedures / troubleshooting.

 Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of three (3) years reliability leadership experience; B.S. in Engineering; or Associate degree in a maintenance and/or reliability related field
  • Ability to lead safety improvements through personal commitment and procedures; knowledge of industrial safety procedures and regulations
  • Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and listening communication skills
  • Analytical, critical thinking, and proven problem-solving skills
  • Proven success building a successful team
  • Proficient planning, organization, and time-management skills
  • Results focused and detail oriented

 Preferred Qualifications

  • Working degree of computer literacy, including computer-based maintenance software (SAP) and Microsoft Office
  • Minimum three (3) years of demonstrated strong leadership skills and experience leading a reliability team in a manufacturing facility to achieve excellent results;
  • Knowledgeable in areas of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and reliability
  • Experience developing and managing predictive technology programs (including but not limited to vibration analysis, ultrasonic, motion amplification, and infrared routes)
  • Experience developing and managing preventative technology programs (including but not limited to precision lubrication and essential care routes)
  • Experience in development and implementation of reliability training programs
  • Rotating equipment troubleshooting aptitude

 Critical Competencies for Success

  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees at all levels within the mill
  • High degree of collaboration with both Maintenance and Operations personnel
  • Ability to interpret and apply principles of a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA)
