Fine Paper Machine (FPM) Shift Supervisor 
The overall function of the Fine Paper Machine (FPM) Shift Supervisor position is to coordinate the safe, cost-effective operation of the Fine Paper area at the mill’s sustaining rate; operate the area so that environmental compliance is maintained; coordinate between maintenance & operations on equipment repairs & outages; as well as proper handling of the labor force within the confines of the union contract and DAWS (Domtar Advanced Work System).

  • Assigning, reviewing, and planning work for crews and maintenance support
  • Resolving union disagreement and grievances at the first level
  • Set expectations, manage crew and individual performance, and implement plans to continually improved performance: Conduct performance evaluations and develop improvement plans for hourly employees; utilize both positive reinforcement as well as disciplinary action to manage performance; maintain positive, proactive culture and healthy working relationships within crew
  • Develop and manage training of the hourly team including new employee orientation to the department
  • Support Crew Training and priorities based on the DAWS requirements and needs of the crew skill sets.

  • Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's degree in Engineering in Paper, Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, or related discipline preferred.
  • If no degree, must have at least 5+ years of practical experience in a paper manufacturing facility.
  • If degree, must have at least 2+ years of experience in a paper manufacturing facility.
  • Experience working in a Process Safety Management environment within a leadership position preferred but not required.
  • Able to climb steps & ladders, open valves, lift & carry equipment; wear respirators and gas masks, and required to enter confined workspaces when needed.
  • Able to work in an environment with paper dust, heat, dirt, grease, chemicals, noise, and other industrial climates, both normal and abnormal/adverse weather conditions.
  • Able and willing to work a 12-hour rotating shift (currently "4 on & 4 off"), or as assigned related to relief positions.
  • Ability to function independently with minimal supervision and able to meet demands of a 24/7 operation
  • Basic proficiencies in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to utilize Hourly Time (payroll) software and scheduling.
