Position Title: Power and Recovery Assistant Superintendent  
 
Location: Plymouth, NC 
 
Reports to: Power and Recovery Superintendent 
 
The Power and Recovery Assistant Superintendent will work with the Mill’s P/R department and provide safety, engineering, and process expertise to the organization.  The position will develop, coordinate, and manage daily responsibilities and projects within the Power and Recovery Department.  
The ideal candidate will build effective, trusting business relationships and partnerships across the organization to execute the implementation of plans supporting the company’s strategic business direction in alignment with Domtar’s core values. 
 
Job Responsibilities/Accountabilities: 
 
  • Be a SAFETY LEADER.  Challenge how things are accomplished to uncover safer options.
  • Lead Root Cause Failure Analysis activities for incidents, process or safety
  • Review assigned area operations daily – identify issues and report
  • Provide, facilitate technical assistance/support as needed
  • Develop optimization plans and strategies to move the business forward – cost, production, efficiency improvements
  • Participate in developing area annual budgets
  • Participate in capital projects, be point of contact when needed
  • Provide troubleshooting during upset or unstable operating conditions
  • Provide point of contact for shift team leaders for technical and strategy questions or issues
  • Assess SOPs for effectiveness and thoroughness, continually review and update SOPs
  • Participate in all operator training and qualification activities
  • Develop, communicate, and assess operating centerlines and norms
  • Participate in maintenance planning and priorities for areas of primary responsibilities – ensure notifications are written for issues requiring maintenance follow up
  • Be primary contact for chemical suppliers in your area, monitor chemical usage, develop chemical trials, determine chemical solutions to operating problems
  • Ensure Essential Care routes are developed, implemented and monitored for non-environmental operating equipment
 
Required Professional Experience/Qualifications:  
 
  • A BS Degree In Engineering or 10 plus years of experience in Manufacturing
  • Demonstrated leadership competency and experience
·         Strong understanding of papermaking processes 
 
Preferred Professional Experience/Qualifications: 
 
·         Experience in a union mill applying concepts of a collective bargaining agreement. 
·         Innovative – implements process or design changes to improve operation of department. 
·         High degree of collaboration with mill leadership 
·         Proficient planning and organization skills 
 
Competencies for Success 
·         Ability to prioritize time and multi-task. 
·         Ability to communicate effectively with employees at all levels within the mill. 
·         Good computer software skills. 
·         Knowledge of Parcview and QIS systems. 
·         Knowledge of lean manufacturing and related tools.
