Position Title: Fiberline Assistant Superintendent  
 
Location: Plymouth, NC 
 
Reports to: Fiberline Superintendent 

The responsibilities of the Fiberline Assistant Superintendent are to indirectly lead operating performance for Fiberline/Pulp Mill, including safety, environmental, quality, cost control, productivity, and employee relations and engagement. The Pulp area includes:  2 Kamyr Continuous Digesters, 2-4 Stage Bleaching Processes, and Chlorine Dioxide Plant. These operations include the indirect supervision of all team leaders, hourly operations team members, and area engineers. This position reports directly to the Fiberline Superintendent. The ideal candidate will be a succession planning candidate for the Fiberline Superintendent.
 
 Job Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
 
  • Provide direction to support safely delivering a quality, cost effective operation by building effective partnerships with our internal customers on the paper machines, our suppliers, and our teammates… realizing that how we operate today is not good enough for tomorrow.
  • Support a safety culture that actively eliminates risk, strives for employee engagement and participation, and performs work safely. Functions as a champion in the areas of Safety, Health and Environmental.
  • Knows, understands, and complies with all applicable environmental requirements including PSM system maintenance. Responsible for PSM Program management.
  • Supports Superintendent in development of performance expectations for the department and assists in meeting their established goals.
  • Embrace reliability planning & scheduling and maintain essential care and condition monitoring. Coordinate and schedule maintenance activities for quarterly outages, emergency outages, and major maintenance shutdowns.
  • Responsible for development, coaching, and training of indirect reports to ensure employee growth to improve overall operations. This includes hourly ladder training and mentoring for co-ops, interns and junior engineers.
 
Required Professional Experience/Qualifications:  
  • Bachelors Degree is preferred but not required in the following disciplines (or similar):  in paper, chemical or mechanical Engineering or a related field with 5-7 years of experience working in Fiberline/Pulp Mill Operations is preferred. Will consider 10+ years of experience in Fiberline/Pulp Mill with a minimum of a high school education.
  • Exceptionally strong leadership skills

  • Expert in Reliability and Continuous Improvement principles and techniques
  • Experience with Unions
  • Able to respond to the need of a 24/7 operation
  • Working knowledge of SAP, data analysis tools and programs, Kronos, Microsoft Office Products
