Position Title: Engineering & Maintenance Manager  

   

Location: Plymouth, on-site  

   

Reports to: General Mill Manager  

   

The Engineering & Maintenance Manager will be responsible for providing strategic leadership to the Maintenance, Reliability, and Engineering Teams. As a member of the Mill Leadership team, you will be responsible for developing strategies for improving plant asset reliability.   

The ideal candidate will build effective, trusting business relationships and partnerships across the organization to execute the implementation of plans supporting the company’s strategic business direction in alignment with Domtar’s core values.  

   

Job Responsibilities/Accountabilities:  

   

  • Lead Preventive, Predictive and Reliable Manufacturing Processes which follow the One Domtar Standards. Participate in the One Domtar Reliability Functional Team to support continuous improvement of the One Domtar Standards.
  • Manage the Mill’s CMMS optimizing spare parts/materials inventory and maintenance work to minimize unplanned downtime and operating cost as well as ensuring the MRO inventory meets proper Working Capital standards as defined by Domtar.
  • Lead the continuous improvement of key performance indicators to increase asset life and department budget cost effectiveness.
  • Lead and perform necessary root cause analysis on asset failures and implement identified actions to imp manufacturing reliability.
  • Ensure the safe, efficient, and cost-effective management of the overall maintenance, engineering and reliability processes and activities to ensure maximum equipment reliability and assets preservation.
  • Manage/control maintenance cost and capital project portfolio to achieve target results while ensuring budgets are prepared, met and variances explained with appropriate action taken as required.
  • Lead and develop the Maintenance, Reliability & Engineering teams.
  • Demonstrate success in leading change and driving improvement.
  • Assist in the development and support of maintenance workforce skills sets to improve performance and preparedness for future needs.

Required Professional Experience/Qualifications:   

   

  • Bachelor’s Degree in paper, chemical, electrical, or mechanical engineering or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years’ experience working in a manufacturing setting leading maintenance and capital projects where managing personnel, logistics, production, workplace safety, preventative maintenance and quality assurance were a requirement.

   

Preferred Professional Experience/Qualifications:  

   

  • Knowledge with electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems (including automation control, AC and DC drives, mechanical drives and systems, PLCs, sensors, and motor controls) and facilities systems.
  • Production/Manufacturing experience in manufacturing, pulp & papermaking is preferred.
  • Exposure to Six Sigma or Lean Methodologies (Blackbelt or Greenbelt certification desired).
  • Business experience with administration, management, and principals involved in strategic planning.
  • Use and knowledge of SAP’s Plant Maintenance (PM) and Materials Management (MM) is preferred.
