                         HEALTH AND SAFETY SPECIALIST

 
Job Description:
Reporting to the Safety Manager, this position’s primary function is to: 
  • Perform all Industrial Hygiene activities to include testing, record keeping, and program management to include atmospheric monitoring program and equipment.
  • Deliver hands on training on all company safety policies to include mobile equipment training.
  • Become a subject matter expert on mills safety policies and programs as to be a resource to mill employees.
  • Assist with the mills emergency response policies and program and maintain emergency response equipment.
  • Provide direction to employees on all matters of safety, health and security as related to the mill.
  • Be proactive in nature towards safety related matters.
  • Assist in contractor management of onsite contractors.
  • Adhere to HPI/HOP methodology.
  • Recommend/implement control to eliminate hazards found in the workplace through IH testing or other job activities.
  • Perform other duties as required.  These duties will include after-hours response to safety issues.
 
Minimum Requirements:
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent safety related work experience
  • A working knowledge of federal, state, and local safety and health regulations.

  • Applicants must have demonstrated leadership and organizational skills, be a self-starter with a strong orientation for continuous improvements, while possessing the ability to advise, recommend and to delegate.
  • Applicant must be customer service oriented; have excellent skills in oral and written communications; possess good negotiations skills; be a team player; as well as prepare and present information to small and large groups.
