Power and Recovery Superintendent 
Domtar’s Plymouth Pulp Mill is located in North Carolina’s Inner Banks off the Roanoke River and produces softwood fluff pulp.  The mill is known for its excellent absorbency and sheet properties and is used in the production of adult incontinence products, baby diapers, and absorbent hygiene products.  The Plymouth Mill is the one of the largest employers in Washington County, NC supporting more than 300 local jobs and contributes to charitable organizations within the local community. 
Reporting to the Mill Operations Manager, the key functions of the Power & Recovery Superintendent include but are not limited to:


Responsible for the safe and reliable operation of the recovery and utilities department:
  • Lead the safety efforts of the department 
  • Lead the area safety team for Power and Recovery 
  • Continuously improve the area’s performance in safety, internal quality, environmental stewardship, reliability, and cost.
  • Lead the department to efficiently convert black liquor to white liquor through the recovery process
  • Utilize additional boilers to supplement steam demand
  • Manage all power generation equipment
  • Ensure that all equipment operates with minimal impact on the environment and within permit limits
  • Guide both salaried and hourly staff in meeting mill goals
  • Involved in budgeting, planning, scheduling & cost control for the Power and Recovery area 
  • Work with maintenance to continuously improve equipment reliability
  • Champion cost reduction efforts throughout the department
  • Play a major role in mill energy programs
  • Manage the training efforts of the department, including training material and execution of the training program. 
  • Assist in planning and execution of the annual outage
  • Coach operations personnel to successfully interact as a team in a safe and efficient operation
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree-Technical field (ChE, ME, EE, etc.)
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in Recovery operations
  • A personal dedication to safety, including proactive support of efforts to create a culture of safety excellence
  • General mechanical knowledge
  • Supervisory experience
  • Working knowledge of SAP and computer systems
  • Builds positive relationships and works well across departments
  • Flexible; effectively uses time & resources to achieve results
  • Achievements properly aligned with Mill goals
  • Willing to take on unpopular assignments
  • Identifies potential projects without direction
  • Meets commitments
