Coating Development Manager

 

Job Summary

Reporting to the Director, Technology Innovation, the Coating Development Manager will work with Technology Manager, Manufacturing, NPD and Strategic Marketing to develop new coating technology(s). Primary focus will be Direct Thermal paper applications. Secondary focus will be Barrier coating technology. This role supports strategic business development through technical development and insight, providing technical guidance to help maximize our development and operational successes while introducing new or different technologies. Substantial experience in formulating coatings, direct thermal paper applications and manufacturing scale-up/optimization is required. 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Support new product development and strategic growth initiatives in thermal & converted product lines.
  • Collaborate with the Technology & Product groups across Domtar’s Pulp and Paper businesses to discover and share potential technology projects.
  • Manage technology projects through the stage gate process, identifying and adhering to aggressive timelines and communicating on the critical project metrics.

 

Required Education/Professional Experience

  • B.S in Paper Science, Polymer Chemistry & Coatings, Chemical Engineering; related field or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of Paper coating development and coating application experience.

 

 

Preferred Education/Professional Experiences

 

  • Experience in direct thermal coating formulation development.
  • Good understanding of direct thermal products market.
  • Experience with manufacturing & coating application methods; curtain coating experience preferred, but not required.
  • Knowledge in coating raw material sciences.
  • Experience with barrier coatings formulation development.
