About the Role:

We are seeking a hands-on cloud infrastructure leader to support and drive our critical Kafka Control Plane engineering team against a large and ambitious roadmap. The team owns end to end infrastructure orchestration for Confluent Cloud Kafka, responsible for instantaneous provisioning, placement, capacity management and zero downtime cluster operations. The team is responsible for customer facing APIs and workflows for Kafka Cluster Management, robust integrations with lower level platform and ecosystem components, and an intelligent upgrade infrastructure delivering updates to thousands of Kafka clusters in a safe, secure and reliable manner.

You will be responsible for further defining the vision, roadmap, growing and coaching the team, and driving critical cross-team efforts to solve complex challenges at scale.

What You Will Do:

  • Own the overall vision and execution for the Kafka Control Plane team
  • Work closely with product management, engineering leadership, and other key stakeholders across various teams in Confluent to build and drive the overall roadmap
  • Foster strong partnerships across teams to address complex challenges, aligning roadmaps and timelines to achieve shared goals
  • Deliver high impact results to the business by driving important technical initiatives in the Kafka Control Plane area with strong focus on reliability, performance, scalability, multi-tenancy, and cohesive architectural direction across organizational boundaries
  • Meet and exceed Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for critical cloud services owned by Kafka Control Plane team. Foster a strong culture of operational excellence and ownership by driving effective root cause analysis, corrective actions and continuous improvements in security, reliability and performance of Kafka Control Plane services.

What You Will Bring: 

  • 10+ years of experience in software development and 4+ years in management
  • Experience designing and building resilient platform or infrastructure services in the cloud at scale using any of the major CSPs (AWS/Azure/GCP etc.,)
  • Experience leading and nurturing horizontal teams, strong collaboration skills and the ability to execute against highly cross functional roadmaps
  • Proven track record of “seeing around corners” to reduce complexity and create critical enduring technical foundations
  • Ability to influence the team, peers, and upper management using effective communication and collaborative techniques
  • Ability to hire while ensuring a high hiring bar, keep engineers motivated, coach/mentor, and handle performance management
  • A great track record of shipping impactful and complex features on time with high quality.
  • A strong bias towards action, drive to achieve results, and excellent prioritization skills
  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent
  • Strong understanding of API ecosystem, microservices and workload orchestration systems such as Kubernetes is a big plus.

We analyze and carefully consider several factors when determining compensation, including work history, education, professional experience, and location. This position has an annual estimated salary of $248,850 - $267,390, an annual bonus, and a competitive equity package.
