Location: Remote (U.S. based, must work EST hours)
Position Type: Full-Time – 40 hours per week

Position Summary:
As the Mortality Investigation Lead Nurse, you will utilize your nursing expertise and project management skills to review mortality cases involving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). You will ensure accuracy, compliance, and thoroughness in all case reviews.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review and analyze medical records, death certificates, and related healthcare documents, with a focus on intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) cases, to examine the circumstances surrounding each death and ensure compliance with healthcare standards, state regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with assigned physician and nurse mortality investigators, agency Mortality Review Committee members, and other stakeholders to resolve discrepancies and verify information.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews of all cases ensuring the mortality investigation report is factual, comprehensive, and concise.
  • Manage workflows and timelines effectively, ensuring high-quality reviews within project deadlines including, but not limited to, assigning cases to physician and nurse reviewers and requesting additional and/or missing records.
  • Provide detailed reporting on findings and participate in process improvements related to mortality review procedures.

Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing school in the United States.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) license in one of the 50 states, with no history of suspension or disciplinary action.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working as a nurse with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience conducting mortality reviews, clinical investigations, and/or comprehensive evaluations.
  • Project management or supervisory experience.
  • Must be willing to work Eastern Standard Time (EST) hours.
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency with healthcare data systems, electronic medical records (EMRs), and Microsoft Office Suite.
