Job Title: Safety and Security Specialist

Ministry/Department: Safety and Security

Reports to: Director of Safety and Security

Status: Full-time, non-exempt

Supervisory Role: No

Objective

You will build and manage teams, facilitate relationship-building and make disciples by promoting all aspects of church safety and security from a holistic church perspective, including all of The Church of Eleven22® campuses, Hopes Closet® stores and additional facilities. This is a dynamic operation subject to changes in many forms, including the potential for shifting and growing responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • ​​Maintain an authentic and growing walk with Jesus Christ through the ongoing spiritual disciplines of Bible reading, prayer, personal worship, fasting, confession and fellowship
  • Assist the Director of Safety and Security with the vision and execution of the Safety and Security Ministry
  • Manage the Evangelical Council for Abuse Prevention (ECAP) accreditation process and ensure standards are met annually, managing the program and audits for renewals
  • Assist with background check processes and approvals
    • Initiate background checks and determine pass/fail results and annotate Rock profiles
    • Work with the background check vendor on any issues or support needs
  • Build relationships and coordinate security support for the Eleven22 Kids, Eleven22 Students, 1825, staff and serve staff ministry areas across their regular services and events
  • Ensure staff and serve staff are scheduled with the appropriate training (e.g., Security (Nehemiah) training, First Aid, CPR, suicide awareness, etc) in a timely manner
  • Shepherd, engage and disciple all members of Nehemiah, Nehemiah Leads, serve staff and Operations Ministers
  • Assist in the recruitment, development and retention of serve staff and Nehemiah teams
  • Assist the director with special event planning and service support
    • Assist with security planning and execution for conferences, big momentum events and one-off events
    • Assist and manage safety and security issues during service times and events
  • Promote and advocate for safe behaviors by staff, serve staff, Nehemiah, Outposts and more, including creating, coordinating and delivering training for welcome team, greeters and parking teams
  • Assist with maintaining relationships with law enforcement partners, including integrating new officers, processing bi-weekly payroll and managing monthly officer scheduling
  • Assist the Director of Safety and Security in managing camera, alarm and access control systems, as well as related Rock support tickets
  • Assist the Director of Safety and Security with emergency management implementation
  • Facilitate the scheduling of bi-annual staff security training
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  • Three to five years of experience in security, law enforcement, military, private security or emergency management
  • Experience working in a multi-site church environment preferred

Expected Hours of Work

Work Hours Expectations: 40 hours or more.

Schedule Expectations: Sunday through Thursday (hours may vary based on church needs, including working full weekends). As a safety and security role, the position requires on-call availability and the ability to respond to alarms, emergencies and urgent incidents at any time, including nights, early mornings and weekends (outside of scheduled working hours).

The church has several big events (“All-Skates”) throughout the year to help further the mission of Eleven22. These events are mandatory for all staff to be in attendance and may vary, depending on the vision cast for the current year.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

The work environment varies and may require you to work in a professional office, inside and outside during planned events and services and during unplanned emergencies that may occur at any time, including nights and weekends. The role requires travel from site to site and may require air travel for conferences. This role routinely uses mobile and computer technology, presentation tools and various types of software and communication applications, the ability to work at a computer for long periods of time and to stand and work for hours at a time. 

Ministerial Exception

The ministerial exception furthers the purposes of the Free Exercise and Establishment Clauses of the First Amendment by barring legal claims against church bodies by staff members who perform religious functions. All church pastors are subject to the exception, but a formal ministerial credential is not required. While there is no rigid formula to determine other church staff members that qualify, various factors are considered to determine which staff members are subject to the ministerial exception (please see handbook).
