Position Overview:

 

Working with the Cemeteries team, the summer students will assist with the maintenance and  general care for City of Kitchener cemeteries.

 

NOTE:

Initial selection for available positions will be for applications received prior to March 4, 2024. Applications received after this date will be kept in an application pool in case of future opportunities.    

 

Responsibilities:

  • Maintains flower beds and hanging baskets; plants, weeds, and provides general care and maintenance of a mixed perennial, bi-annual and annual plant material.
  • Waters and fertilizers plant material as required.
  • Collects and removes debris/litter (site beautification).
  • Operates grass cutting equipment (push mower), leaf blower, and gas-powered line trimmer.
  • Clears woodchip walking paths; collects and removes debris.

 

Requirements:

  • Minimum equivalent to partial secondary school education.
  • Minimum 1 month of related experience.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a valid MTO “G2” class driver’s license in good standing and ability to provide Drivers Abstract at your own expense as a condition of employment.
  • Ability to perform physical labour in a variety of outdoor conditions.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and follow directions.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills and ability to keep accurate written records.
  • Must be reliable with good attitude and employment record.
