The Bermuda Monetary Authority (Authority or BMA) is seeking the services of a skilled and capable 
individual to work as a Deputy Director in our Supervision (Insurance) Department. Reporting to the 
Deputy Managing Director, the Deputy Director will be responsible for directing and managing 
supervisory teams/individuals to meet the goals and objectives of the group supervision section. 
The incumbent will lead the Analytics and Infrastructure Team responsible for developing and 
implementing tools, capabilities and technology to support the supervisory activities of the 
Insurance Supervision Department. The incumbent will provide advice, guidance and direction on all 
relevant matters pertaining to the Bermuda Monetary Authority's (Authority or BMA) framework for 
insurance supervision and analytics and make strategic recommendations to the Deputy Managing 
Director.

This is a key role for the Authority and the post-holder will be responsible for but not limited 
to:

•  Directing a group-level Supervision Team that undertakes risk-based supervision for all licensed 
or regulated entities in the insurance sector by implementing a forward-looking, risk-based 
framework involving the analysis of financial and other information obtained in the normal course 
of supervision
•  Leading and collaborating with members of the senior management team to implement and enhance the insurer's application of the eligible capital framework and other capital management 
initiatives
•  Managing a team involved in the off-site analysis of financial and other performance data, 
prudential and other meetings with senior management of licensed firms and on-site compliance 
reviews of aspects of a firm's business across many jurisdictions
•  Leading the development and implementation of supervision and analytics initiatives, including 
reviewing the current supervisory and analytics processes to identify areas for improvement and 
greater efficiencies; researching and developing best practices and ensuring that the Analytics and 
Infrastructure Team effectively engage in the research and development of advanced analytics to 
cascade through the department's supervisory teams
•  Liaising between the Supervision (Insurance) and Policy Development Departments to facilitate 
the implementation of legislative changes
•  Leading process enhancement/development work streams, including the digital applications 
implementation
•  Contributing to the development and implementation of the BMA's strategy and policy and, in 
conjunction with other members of the senior management team, ensuring that the business is managed in accordance with the declared vision, values, goals and priorities of the BMA
•  Supporting the formulation and implementation of the Supervision (Insurance) Department's 
strategic initiatives
•  Assisting with the development of timely budgets for the effective management of the department, 
ensuring that controls are in place to monitor the operations and provide accountability for 
expenses in keeping with the goals and objectives of the BMA
•  Directing the preparation of report findings in the area(s) reviewed to convey information to 
the senior management concerning the safety, soundness and compliance with the laws and regulations pertaining to licensed entities
•  In conjunction with executive management, reviewing and evaluating situations where projects or 
time-critical tasks may be achieved through outsourcing; oversee/monitor all such approved 
activities involving consultants, ensuring desired results are achieved within budget
•  Leading and managing senior-level staff in addition to providing support for technical and 
administrative issues that focus on the achievement of departmental goals
•  Monitoring performance of individual team members and providing routine mentoring and feedback, as well as preparing formal performance appraisal reports as prescribed by the performance management process
•  Identifying training needs of employees and agreeing/establishing programmes for their 
development through formal training courses, special projects or on-the-job exposure
•  Representing the Authority at various local and international meetings, conferences and 
seminars, involving meetings and information exchanges with regulatory bodies, government agencies and the financial services industry, have personal interactions and are required to manage, develop and maintain key relationships with other regulatory bodies, governmental agencies, and the financial services industry whilst keeping abreast of industry trends
•  Performing other related work and special projects as assigned by management in accordance with competencies normally associated with the post
 
This position requires the following skills, abilities and interests:

•  A master's degree or equivalent qualification in insurance, finance or accounting from a 
recognised institution or professional body
•  Minimum of twelve (12) years of relevant post-graduate experience, of which at least five (5) years must be at a senior level managing and developing teams and building high-performance cultures within the financial services business (specifically the insurance industry) and/or working experience with a financial regulatory body
•  Familiarity with international insurance regulatory standards and the Bermuda insurance primary 
and secondary legislation would be a decided advantage
•  The post holder should also have an excellent understanding of a wide range of 
technologies
•  Exceptional analytical, presentation and communication skills (written and oral) and highly 
developed team leadership and mentoring skills
•  Experience as a thought leader as demonstrated through associations, committees, etc.
•  The ability to interface with the financial services industry, government and various 
international regulatory bodies
