The Bermuda Monetary Authority (Authority or BMA) is seeking the services of a skilled and capable individual to work as an Assistant Director - Systemic Risk Analysis in our Financial Stability and Research Department. Reporting to the Financial Stability Advisor, Head of Research, the Assistant Director will be responsible for undertaking and overseeing macroprudential policy and systemic risk analysis projects that contribute to the Authority’s financial stability objectives.

This is a key role for the Authority and the postholder will be responsible for but not limited to:

• Conducting macroprudential research and systemic risk analysis projects to assess emerging and evolving risks across Bermuda’s financial system
• Participate in developing, enhancing, and implementing top-down macroprudential stress-testing frameworks to evaluate systemic risks and their implications for financial stability
• Contributing to the Authority’s programme of work on systemic risk identification, scenario analysis, and frameworks for cross-sectoral risk assessment
• Preparing forward-looking research reports on systemic risk, identifying vulnerabilities in the financial sector, and contributing to thought leadership on stability issues
• Evaluating the implications of macroprudential policy measures and conducting impact assessments on the Bermuda financial system
• Collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders, including regulators, policymakers, and international organisations, to address systemic risks and ensure alignment with global standards
• Providing expert technical input to assist senior management in policy decisions regarding systemic risk prevention and mitigation
• Steering an assigned team in addition to providing support for technical and administrative issues
• Providing direction, leadership and supervision to the assigned team(s) and working groups, in addition to providing support on technical, managerial and administrative matters in achieving the department’s overall goals and objectives
• Overseeing performance of individual team members, providing direction, mentoring and feedback. Conducting formal performance appraisal discussions as prescribed by the performance management process
• Providing management leadership and supervision to assigned teams and individuals with respect to providing professional advice, encouragement and guidance in conducting their assignments and achieving both departmental objectives and personal goals
• Identifying training needs of employees and, in conjunction with the Learning and Development Department, establishing programmes for their development by way of formal training courses, special projects or on the job exposure
• Performing other related work and special projects as assigned by management in accordance with competencies normally associated with the post

This position requires a proven technical and business background, therefore, the postholder must have:

• A Master’s degree or equivalent qualification in finance, actuarial science, statistics, mathematics and/or related discipline from a recognised institution. A doctoral level degree in a related discipline would be an asset
• A minimum of ten (10) years relevant experience, with at least five (5) years at a senior level leading a team, in the financial services industry and/or working experience with a central bank, financial services regulator and/or research institution. Proven experience in policy or research design, development and implementation
• Demonstrated experience in writing detailed research papers and reports, particularly those blending data analysis, critical thinking, source evaluation, and evidence-based policy recommendations
• A broad and deep understanding of international finance and economic interconnectedness, particularly as it relates to systemic risk
• Strong analytical skills and a track record in developing or implementing macroprudential models, tools, or stress testing frameworks
• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to disseminate complex findings to diverse audiences clearly and effectively
• A demonstrated ability to balance multiple projects, prioritise workloads, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced and dynamic professional environment
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with a broad range of stakeholders, including senior management, industry experts, and international organisations
• An ability to lead and provide training to staff members
