American Specialty Health Incorporated is seeking a Public Relations Manager to join our Marketing department. This position will be home based in our San Diego office and will work a hybrid in office/at home schedule to help devise and implement our public relations strategy leveraging communications best practices to support our clinical, fitness, and wellbeing lines of business. Working with the Director of Corporate Communications, the person hired for this position will work with other Marketing team members and other internal stakeholders to inform and educate customers, increase brand trust, and secure a greater share of voice across the industry markets we support. The Public Relations Manager will be directly responsible for the execution of public relations campaigns and their tactics to include cultivating ongoing positive relationships with media contacts, monitoring media placements, maintaining media databases, pitching journalists, drafting materials for conventional public relations, and other administrative tasks as is necessary.

Salary Range

American Specialty Health complies with state and federal wage and hour laws and compensation depends upon candidate’s qualifications, education, skill set, years of experience, and internal equity. $62,400.00  to $75,000.00 Full Time Annual Salary Range.

Remote Worker Considerations

Candidates who are selected for this position may be trained virtually or onsite and must have the capability to work from home in a designated work area with company-provided technology equipment. This remote/WFH position requires you have a stable connection to your Internet Service Provider with the ability to participate by video in online meetings over a reliable and consistent network (minimum internet download of 50 Mbps and 10 Mbps upload speed). This position will require occasional onsite office work. ASH requires all onsite employees and employees who travel for their position to either (a) establish they have been fully vaccinated; or (b) wear a N95, KN95, or KF94 well-fitting mask while working onsite at an ASH Office.

Responsibilities

  • Strategize, collaborate, plan, execute, measure, and provide insights for public relations activities.
  • Masters relevant industry and business unit information to devise public relations strategies for current and existing products, launches, and promotions amplifying awareness.
  • Serves as a key steward for public relations strategy, public relations campaign management, and media relations management for all company brands to build and grow the company’s reputation and presence.
  • Collaborates with other Marketing team leads and their staff to ensure the public relations strategy is aligned with other communications campaigns to best generate awareness, engage target audiences, and enhance the positive reputation of the company and its brands.
  • Participates in cross-collaborative meetings with Marketing and other department leaders to ensure alignment of public relations activities in support of the company’s lines of business.
  • Creates, manages, and budgets for annual public relations activities.
  • Works with other members of the award winning Engage! Creative Group to coordinate photography, videography, and other visual elements supporting public relations deliverables.
  • Keeps abreast of trends and recommends most effective public relations tactics to deploy as a part of integrated marketing campaigns.
  • Works closely with the leadership to coordinate the delivery of day-to-day tactics, including production of high-quality thought leader articles, press releases, mat releases, press kits, and other public relations materials, in addition to tracking media placements and providing media reporting.
  • Ensures that all public relations materials present a clear, unified, and positive image for the organization and its brands.
  • Manages media relations activities to include tracking of all media contacts while maintaining excellent relationships with members of the media.
  • Analyzes media coverage and develops responses as needed.
  • Provides status reports on public relations performance to senior leadership and assists with the development of the monthly Sales Team Presentation and quarterly Marketing Report
  • Promotes and reports on corporate milestones and activities such as company goals and projects; new products or services; community service activities; and key personnel changes.
  • Drafts annual national and regional award nominations for the company as well as national and regional executive awards; actively seeks out new opportunities for awards recognition.
  • Proactively monitors Yelp, Better Business Bureau, Glass Door, and similar sites and partners with leadership, Human Resources, Customer Service, Social Media and others to create responses with existing protocols when appropriate to protect the company’s reputation.
  • Assist with selecting and managing external agencies and vendors as required.
  • Responsible for devising and directing partial work activities of one team member.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Mass Communications, Media Studies, or related field required.
  • Five years of progressive public relations experience leveraging earned, owned, shared, and paid media opportunities in support of integrated campaigns targeted to B2B, B2C, and B2B2C audiences.
  • Experience collaborating with other members of a robust Marketing team to develop and execute a public relations strategy to include goals and budget.
  • Experience collaborating with executive team members to create talking points, develop content for external distribution, and provide media training.
  • Expertise in creating, editing, and promoting written and visual content to include press releases, thought leadership articles, feature stories, blog articles, media kits, media center content, and other creative public relations content.
  • History of building and maintaining high-value relationships with members of the business and consumer media with the ability to hit the ground running by leveraging current media contacts.
  • Experience securing interview opportunities with traditional consumer, trade, and business media outlets, as well as consumer and business podcasts.
  • Experience securing paid and earned content placement in industry-relevant web sites, trade journals, and consumer publications.
  • Experience tracking relevant media content and providing analysis and recommended courses of action to respond to coverage.
  • Experience evaluating media results and presenting key analytics that help drive future activities.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills with a demonstrated ability to produce a wide range of public relations content that engages key constituencies.
  • Exceptional verbal communication skills with the proven ability to clearly articulate a company’s key value proposition.
  • Ability to research and understand complex issues with the added capability of preparing content about these issues for a wide range of audiences.
  • Excellent presentation skills with an ability to maintain a professional, positive, and enthusiastic demeanor when communicating with C-suite executives, internal partners, and clients.
  • Effective project management, communication, organizational, analytical, interactive, and independent decision-making skills required.
  • Comfortable working with external agencies and strategic partners, as well as building proficiency in-house
