Description

American Specialty Health Incorporated (ASH) is seeking a Sr Platform Engineer I to join our to join our Platform Engineering and DevOps organization.

The purpose of this role is to serve as an individual contributor responsible for implementing and contributing to the design and evolution of capabilities that enable secure, scalable, and efficient public cloud adoption and software delivery. This role supports platform engineering practices, developer self-service, and contributes to the continuous improvement of cloud reliability, automation, and engineering standards to accelerate business outcomes through the simplification of software product delivery.

Remote Worker Guidelines

  • Remote Worker Guidelines: This position will be trained remotely and must be able to work from home (WFH) in a designated work area with company-provided technology equipment. This WFH position requires you have a stable connection to your Internet Service Provider with the ability to participate by video in online meetings over a reliable and consistent network. The internet connection must have a consistent 50 down/10 up Mbps minimum internet speed. 100 down/20 up is recommended to support higher quality video meetings.


Responsibilities

  • Platform Engineering Delivery
    • Implement and contribute to the design of platform environments across cloud compute, storage, networking, and runtime layers that leverage IaaS and PaaS products on the Azure public cloud.
    • Deploy and operate containerized platform-native runtime services.
    • Implement infrastructure provisioning using Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
    • Develop, maintain, and enhance reusable platform components and automation frameworks based on established platform patterns and standards.

    Platform Efficiency, Reliability, Security & Governance

    • Implement security controls and policy enforcement defined by platform standards.
    • Implement identity, access, and secrets management patterns.
    • Enable compliance and governance through automated guardrails.
    • Implement monitoring and logging solutions.
    • Implement and support redundant, fault tolerant, and automated recovery mechanisms that leverage zonal and multi-region cloud tenancy patterns.
    • Monitor platform performance and contribute to cost optimization efforts.

    Software Product Delivery Enablement & Developer Experience

    • Enable consistent application deployment patterns and workflows.
    • Support, build, and enhance developer tooling and CI/CD platform capabilities.
    • Implement and maintain self-service templates and contribute to the evolution of golden paths.
    • Contribute to abstraction layers and APIs for infrastructure and platform services.

    Operations & Continuous Improvement

    • Troubleshoot platform and infrastructure issues.
    • Perform root cause analysis.
    • Collaborate with team members and share knowledge.

    Integration & Eventing Platform Enablement

    • Implement and support messaging, eventing, and API capabilities.
    • Enable event-driven and asynchronous communication patterns across systems.
    • Utilize and contribute to reusable integration patterns for application and platform services.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent experience required. If equivalent experience, High School Diploma required.
  • 3 years experience in cloud platform engineering, software engineering, systems engineering or DevOps roles; with hands-on experience implementing and supporting scalable, distributed systems across IaaS, PaaS, AI, and container-based environments required.
  • Experience designing and implementing infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines, and automated platform provisioning, with proficiency in at least one scripting or programming language required.
  • Experience working within and contributing to DevOps/DevSecOps practices, including collaboration across development, security, and operations teams required.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex systems, improve platform reliability, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives required.
  • Working knowledge of identity and access management concepts and securing platform resources in cloud environments required.
  • Experience implementing or supporting platform observability, including logging, monitoring, and performance diagnostics required.
  • Exposure to supporting application or infrastructure modernization efforts, including migration from on-premises to cloud environments preferred.
  • Exposure to AI/ML platform services preferred.
  • Experience supporting or enabling micro services-based architectures and modern application deployment patterns, including asynchronous system to system integration using queuing and messaging platforms preferred.
  • Exposure to platform security and compliance controls preferred.
  • Exposure to developer platform or self-service enablement preferred.
  • Exposure to cost optimization or resource efficiency practices preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure IaaS and PaaS offering preferred.
  • Strong background in creating secure cloud architectures and implementation for Internet-facing applications.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, influencing, collaboration and negotiation skills required.
  • Microsoft Azure certifications such as Azure Administrator, Developer, or Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer within 1-1/2 Yrs preferred.
  • Microsoft Azure certifications, Azure AI Engineer Associate, AI Fundamentals within 1-1/2 Yrs preferred.
