Description

American Specialty Health Incorporated is seeking a Contracts Specialist I to join our Legal and Contracts (CON) department. This position will support the contract management department of the Company. Note: The individual in this position is not intended to practice law or provide legal advice. The individual in this position does not negotiate rates.

Salary Range
American Specialty Health complies with state and federal wage and hour laws and compensation depends upon candidate’s qualifications, education, skill set, years of experience, and internal equity. $48,00 to $57,000 Full-Time Annual Salary Range.
Remote Worker Considerations
Candidates who are selected for this position will be trained remotely and must be able to work from home (WFH) in a designated work area with company-provided technology equipment. This remote/WFH position requires you have a stable connection to your Internet Service Provider with the ability to participate by video in online meetings over a reliable and consistent network (minimum internet download of 50 Mbps and 10 Mbps upload speed).  

Responsibilities

  • Assists in supporting Department and is accountable for all activities within assigned scope of authority. The specialist’s assigned scope of authority may focus on one or more lines of business and primarily includes, but is not limited to, the following:
  • Prepares and manages standard and non-standard form contracts, agreements, amendments, and similar documents including, but not limited to:
  • Employer agreements and related documents for new and existing business employer group contracts, group subscriber agreements and administrative/network agreements etc.
  • Health plan agreements and related documents for new and existing business capitation and compensation service agreements, new administrative/network agreements, etc.
  • Complex and new products agreements, amendments, and related documents.
  • Agreements, amendments, and related documents for Health Management.
  • Provider, practitioner, or fitness facility agreements and related documents.
  • Vendor agreements.
  • NDAs, LOIs, MOUs, RFPs.
  • Agreements related to internal operations, i.e., related to Human Resources, Information Technology, etc.
  • Serves as subject matter expert in a constantly evolving contracts environment.
  • Drafting
  • Reviews contract documents to issue spot and identify and suggest potential solutions.
  • Drafts revisions of various standard form contracts, agreements, and amendments, including but not limited to, group agreements, health plan agreements, and member materials.
  • Prepares non-standard modifications to reflect negotiated changes, within parameters approved by manager or above.
  • Drafts revisions to standard template form agreements.
  • Management and Negotiation
  • Acquires and maintains appropriate documentation regarding current and terminated agreements in a constantly evolving contracts environment.
  • With supervision, identifies the need for revisions of various standard form contracts, agreements, and amendments, including but not limited to, group agreements, health plan agreements, and member materials assigned by manager.
  • With supervision, identifies non-standard modifications that need to be drafted in order to reflect negotiated changes.
  • Drafts correspondence for internal clients, vendors and other parties related to agreements and/or negotiations.
  • Drafts correspondence for use with external clients, vendors and other external parties related to agreements and/or negotiations.
  • Works with Regulatory Compliance, Privacy, and IT Security Departments to a) ensure regulatory requirements, privacy and security provisions are included in agreements and amendments for particular contracts or jurisdictions, as applicable; and b) provide contract information and support needed for compliance activities.
  • With supervision, negotiates contracts, agreements and amendments with external clients, vendors, and the like within Department-approved parameters.
  • Maintains contracts and agreements library of executed agreements, using authorized and appropriate tools.
  • Timely informs manager and above of urgent issues.
  • Supports administrative functions of Department.
  • Provides manager and above with periodic contract status updates regarding client assignments.
  • Manages client timeframe expectations and escalates concerns regarding ability to meet client timeframe expectations to manager.
  • Interacts positively with other departments and external contacts as needed.
  • Represents Company in an ethical, professional, and positive manner.
  • Maintains all information and material received from employer, ASH Legal and outside counsel during employment on a strictly confidential basis and in accordance with Company policies and procedures. The sharing of any information is strictly forbidden under any circumstances with any non-employee of the company.
  • Maintains and learns computer and system skills necessary to perform job functions.
  • Assists with process management including but not limited to tracking and filing.
  • Photocopies, files, and faxes as needed to support job responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, History, Political Science, Paralegal certificate, or equivalent experience. Master’s degree in Health Care Administration, Legal degree preferred. If equivalent experience, high school diploma required.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in contract development and an emphasis in contract language negotiation and document management.
  • Internal Company experience and in depth understanding of Company systems, policies and procedures preferred.
  • Experience with health insurance contracts, managed health care, and/or working with health plans and employer groups preferred. Equivalent experience in a regulated industry may be considered.
  • Proven experience in reviewing contract documents to issue spot and identify and suggest potential solutions.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel). Proficient in PowerPoint and SharePoint preferred.
  • Knowledge of Health Care Regulations and/or vendor contracting preferred.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent research skills.
  • Strong analytical and expert writing skills.
  • Ability to work as an individual and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to issue spot and problem solve, and to assist with identifying and developing effective solutions.
