Advanced Systems Group LLC. is seeking a Broadcast Systems and Solutions Design Engineer to join our high-performing team and contribute to audiovisual systems integration projects while helping to ensure client success.
Our portfolio covers an array of projects including but not limited to designing, building, and expanding video production studios, sound recording studios, corporate event centers, video presentation systems, commercial sound systems, and screening rooms. The successful candidate will join our Broadcast Systems and Solutions team, which is an extraordinarily talented group of engineers and project personnel who thrive in our collaborative work environment with our dynamic portfolio of projects.
This position will be based in California and will require occasional travel to client sites as required.
Job Responsibilities:- Work with the client to develop the functional and technical requirements for the system.
- Collaborate with the project manager and management team to develop the engineering related aspects of the project plan.
- Estimate the engineering effort required to complete engineering tasks.
- Represent ASG as the engineering point of contact and technical subject matter expert on the project for the client and vendors.
- Develop the conceptual design for the system, including the system architecture and conceptual drawing package and any required design narratives.
- Make recommendations on broadcast technology solutions based on broadcast product knowledge, cost/benefit analysis, functional requirements, technical requirements, and budget constraints.
- Work with the client, manufacturers, and the ASG sales account manager to develop the equipment list or bill of materials (BOM) for the system.
- Create detailed system design drawings, elevations, and other technical documentation in Autodesk AutoCAD.
- Assist the engineering team to develop the detailed system design package, including but not limited to system drawings, equipment lists, wire-lists, elevations, and connector details of a project.
- Provide requirements to the facility infrastructure design engineer for support of the broadcast system installation, including but not limited to power, heat load, weights, cabinet dimensions, cable conveyance, cable distance limitations, equipment mounting, video display wall, panel backboxes, etc.
- Review and markup the facility infrastructure design drawings to ensure that they meet the requirements for the broadcast system.
- Release the completed and accurate detailed system design package to the project manager for distribution to the field.
- Perform site surveys to confirm that the facility infrastructure and installation meet the design requirements.
- Review and respond to any RFI or Submittal relating to the detailed system design, system shop drawings, or system related facility infrastructure.
- Support on-site or off-site project manager and installation supervisor with clarifications and design changes as needed.
- Test, validate, and configure the installed systems to meet the design and functionality requirements.
- Manage and support the manufacturer commissioning engagements.
- Produce, prepare, and/or review the as-build system documentation.
- Work with the project team to prepare the closeout package.
- Perform system training for the client staff.
- Perform technical handoff to the support team.
- Contribute to lessons learned documentation.
- Contribute to continuous engineering process improvement program and recommend areas of improvement and development.
- Provide mentorship to junior engineering team members.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Expert-level knowledge of broadcast technology standards and practical applications including but not limited to SMPTE ST 2110 and related standards, SDI, AES67, Dante, data networking, router control protocols, cloud technology.
- Expert-level knowledge of broadcast manufacturer’s products and solutions
- Strong broadcast related IT network design and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to design a complex broadcast system from concept through detailed design to meet the client’s technical, functional, and business requirements.
- Strong Autodesk AutoCAD drawing proficiency and the ability to create build packages is required.
- Strong proficiency in MS Office, Google Suite, spreadsheet, and database.
- Ability to consistently follow engineering process and documentation standards and contribute to the improvement of the standards.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Ability to plan tasks and assist in leading engineering resources on projects to meet the timeline and budget.
- Top-notch research skills, able to find out the answer to any question.
- Ability to comprehend and author technical documentation.
- Responsiveness to queries is a must, with updates and follow-through.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in systems integration projects in the M&E and Audiovisual industry, including design engineering, systems testing, and commissioning.
- BSEE or equivalent technical training and experience.
- Certifications in SMPTE ST 2110, IT Networking, Cloud and related fields preferred.
- Experience in broadcast engineering roles, specifically focused on live broadcast or post-production facilities.
- Must be based in California.
- Ability to travel as required (approximately 30%).
Compensation & Benefits:
This full-time role offers an annual salary of $150,000 - 180,000 depending on experience.
This is a remote role based in the United States.
