What will you be doing?

As part of our expansion in Australia, we are looking for a business developer to join our team in Sydney, working with and closely supporting team editors across Asia.  It would be best if you were business-focused, self-driven, confident, resourceful, and versatile:

• biofuels/oil products professional or business development professional with an understanding of who to talk to develop our coverage in Australia and the Pacific.  
• Or experienced journalist who can quickly become a subject matter expert and lead the development of our biofuels and oil products business, including meeting with industry to ascertain the most useful coverage.

The role involves looking for opportunities for Argus to meet the rapidly changing needs of the biofuels/oil products markets and working closely with our team in Singapore and London team. In your role, you will expand market contacts, assess prices, and write news and market analysis for Argus’ live news website and daily, weekly, and monthly publications.  

This role will require a collaborative approach, working with the growing team in Australia and industry stakeholders to report on markets and develop pricing opportunities. It requires self-motivation, confidence in building new contacts and the initiative to drive projects forward with the ability to meet tight deadlines. You would be:

• Establishing strong relationships with key members of the industry and business leaders through meetings and daily communications to promote Argus’ position and gain an in-depth understanding of the markets.
• Working closely with business development teams in Singapore and London to engage with the biofuels and oil products firms, including producers, users, financiers, developers and traders, in order to expand Argus’ reach in these crucial and quickly-evolving markets.
• Attending meetings, conferences, and industry events to build contacts, assessing pricing opportunities, representing Argus in the industry, and presenting and participating in panel discussions to promote Argus.
• Monitoring and assessing fast-moving markets to produce price assessments and intelligence, market commentaries, news, analysis, and reports.
• Collaborating with colleagues in Sydney and globally to enhance and drive coverage.
• Building up your industry expertise and writing skills to provide readers with first-class market insights and analysis.

What we’re looking for in you

• A strong bachelor degree, preferably in Economics, Journalism, Communications, Business or a relevant field.
• Experience promoting price indexation, business intelligence or market analytics services in commodities markets would be beneficial.
• An investigative mind that can discover industry needs, trends and detailed pricing.
• Understanding the global and/or local biofuel/oil products markets would be advantageous.
• Experience in creating presentations and writing updates in a fast-moving business environment.
• Ability to work effectively with management and meet targets in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment.
• Strong experience with Microsoft Office Suite with expertise in Excel.

Travel

• Willing and able to travel up extensively in Australia to support client engagements

Hours

Monday through Friday, 9.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m.

Earlier or later hours, or weekend hours, may be expected on occasion.
