What will you be doing?

 

We are looking for a driven, passionate, and resourceful Associate Editor to help run the non-ferrous metals editorial team and advance its market-leading coverage. 

 

You will work closely with a team of market reporters and other regional editorial members to provide price assessment, news coverage, maintaining and expanding the contact base, and attending and speaking at conferences.  The successful candidate will lead major team projects, help set strategic direction for team coverage, mentor less-experienced colleagues, and help the editor with end-of-day tasks.

 

  • Assist the Editor in the day-to-day management of the Asia-based team covering the non-ferrous metals markets.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on the desk and other teams to enhance and drive coverage.
  • Establish strong relationships with key industry members and business leaders through meetings and daily communications to gain an in-depth understanding of your market.
  • Work closely with the Editor to oversee methodology relevant to coverage, including timely communication of needed changes, additions or deletions.
  • Attend meetings, conferences, and industry events to build contacts, report on news and represent Argus in the industry.
  • Help to build and curate data sets that help explain market dynamics.
  • Support the Editor in guiding, training, managing and motivating a team of reporters.

 What we’re looking for in you

 

  • An articulate graduate with a strong degree.
  • 5+ years of experience in the commodities industry, journalism or a related sector.
  • Background in metals markets preferred but not essential.
  • Ability to use data to generate stories and analysis using Excel is preferred.
  • Understanding of price reporting methodology and compliance issues would be a strong advantage.
  • A strong understanding of market supply and demand dynamics in commodities.
  • Proven public speaking abilities. This position will be an internal and external ambassador of what we do and must be an accomplished and confident speaker.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to network and build contacts with industry executives and internally.
  • Experience in writing and editing market-relevant news, market commentary and analysis with the ability to meet tight deadlines.

Travel

  • Cover client meetings, conferences, and events (5-25% of overseas travel in Asia is expected).

 

Hours

Monday through Friday, 10.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m.  

Earlier or later hours, or weekend hours, may be expected on occasion.
