Job title: Senior Tax Consultant

Employment Type: Permanent 

  

  

Role & Key Responsibilities: 

  • Review tax, PAYE, TDS, CSG and VAT computations and returns;
  • Coordinate internally to ensure timely filing of quarterly and annual tax returns for all clients
  • Monitor status of client tax compliance by reviewing the tax reports and producing KPIs;
  • Prepare and maintain the taxation processes;
  • Assist with regular internal training sessions/tax updates sessions;
  • Coaching of junior staff and review of work
  • Provide technical support on tax matters to client service units based on established procedures;
  • Assist in preparation of tax technical papers and new tax procedures;
  • Maintain database of MRA tax rulings, domestic tax cases, Indian tax ruling/cases and relevant international tax rulings/cases;
  • Review queries received from MRA for all clients centrally and provide guidance to client service units on
    required course of action;
  • Liaise with clients in respect of MRA queries, and review/amend reply letters and supporting documents
    to address MRA queries;
  • Liaise with MRA in respect of client tax matters and attend meetings with MRA officers on behalf of clients;
  • Assist in drafting and submitting application for tax rulings;
  • Assist in drafting written representations to ARC;
  • Conduct applied research on domestic and international tax issues;
  • Review changes in tax laws, analyse implications and arrange for implementation of same;
  • Assist in performing tax analysis on Mauritian Tax matters for clients and summarising findings in report;
  • Any other duty that may be communicated to you by your Manager and Directors.

  

Skills required: 

  • 0-2 years of working experience in the Global Business sector and familiar with different types of vehicles structures;
  • Holds a degree or has substantially completed a professional ACA or ACCA qualification;
  • Has a keen interest in taxation and has been exposed to various types of tax computations;
  • Has a thorough knowledge of the tax dispute and resolution process in Mauritius and is comfortable to do liaison with the tax authorities
  • Has adequate experiences to draft and review memos or technical papers
  • Attention to detail with a strong control mindset;
  • A good knowledge of IFRS;
  • Complements formal training with self-learning;
  • Well organised and a track record of working and delivering to tight deadlines and quality;
  • Has a proactive mindset and can work autonomously with minimal supervision;
  • A natural problem solver and pragmatic approach in dealing with technical or operational issues;
  • Works well in teams and promotes coaching.
  • Creative thinker - should have sufficient knowledge to see behind the numbers;
  • Comfortable with change opportunity and growth.
  • Strong decision-making skills;
  • Ability to multi-task and to work efficiently to meet deliverables;
  • Sound interpersonal skills and ability to interact with staff at all level and various stakeholders
