The Role

The role will involve managing a fund accounting operation teams based in the Mexico City offices of the Apex Group. In this position you will report into the local head of operations.. You will also work with the appointed relationship managers and client service managers in the United States and Canada. Your team will provide fund accounting services for clients contracted to various Apex offices across North America for open ended funds, including both hedge funds and traditional funds. In addition, the scope of your team’s services may extend also to middle office services.

You will have extensive experience in the accounting for and administration of traditional and hedge funds, and ideally also hybrid funds, which hold illiquid assets in an open ended fund structure. You will have a proven knowledge of the fund industry and should have demonstrated experience in leading teams successfully. Experience working on Paxus and / or Geneva would also be highly beneficial for this position.

 

Responsibilities:

  • You will be responsible for the oversight of fund accountants and fund administrators and their assigned funds
  • Experience dealing with a wide variety of funds (Traditional, hybrid, and Hedge funds)
  • Experience dealing with complex P&L allocations across entities within an overall structure
  • Strong understanding and experience dealing with various types of performance fee calculations.
  • Ensure the funds under your responsibility are reviewed in accordance with the global KOP & checklists.
  • Proven track record of developing/motivating individuals and teams.
  • Ensure effective task allocation and delegation across your team, with appropriate ability to respond to rapidly changing demands
  • Ensure a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Manage team capacity to support new business.
  • Primary contact and escalation point for the client service managers based in North America.
  • Proven track record of excellent client service.
  • Ensure client concerns and queries are addressed in a timely and efficient manner
  • Management oversight of the audit process and delivery for your group within client and SOC agreed timeframes.
  • Deal with any client’s reviews or scorecards. Due diligence visits.
  • Ensure effective communication with colleagues and corresponding departments; must also have ability to effectively communicate with clients as and when required
  • Participate in new business pitches and resource estimation for its servicing.
  • Involvement in various project and product offering development.

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • University degree preferred - accounting, finance, business or economics (or overseas equivalent)
  • Professional accounting designation preferred (CPA, CMA, CA, ACCA etc.)
  • 10 years’ experience in a similar role with at least 5 years’ experience within the Fund industry
  • Strong industry knowledge with proven management experience
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • An ability to work to and meet agreed deadlines
  • Highly organized and motivated individual with an acute attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of IFRS and GAAP as applicable to Funds
  • Familiarity with the fund accounting system is a major plus (Paxus and / or Investran)
  • Detailed knowledge & understanding of securities and other financial instruments.
  • Computer proficiency with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel etc.)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • An ability to think critically and objectively
  • Have the drive to work toward continuous improvement
  • The flexibility and willingness to work additional hours if required
