Role summary:
Apex is seeking a recently qualified CA (SA) or candidate with SAICA articles experience or a SAIPA candidate with a passion to further develop their skillset in the field of international taxation. The candidate will need to have a good understanding of complex accounting tax related matters such as deferred tax and the ability to learn and develop their tax knowledge through independent research of tax jurisdictions outside of South Africa. The candidate will report directly to the Director of Tax compliance and Reporting for the Apex group to assist the team in ensuring that all group tax compliance matters are adhered to.
 
Key responsibilities:
  1. Review corporate tax computations across the group and recommend improvements to corporate tax workbooks.
  2. Assist in the consistent review of the accounting tax accrual raised in each legal entity within the group.
  3. Liaise with external tax advisors to ensure timeous completion of the corporate tax returns.
  4. Help to collate information for purposes of the corporate tax filing.
  5. Assist in the preparation of advanced payment tax returns and the filings of corporate tax returns.
  6. Assist in the preparation and maintenance of the Transfer Pricing Masterfile and Local file.
  7. Assist in the research of complex tax matters.
  8. Perform preparation and reviews of VAT computations across the group (in select jurisdictions).
  9. Assist in the compilation of quarterly tax reports for relevant board meetings.
 
Skills and experience required:
  1. Recently qualified CA (SA), or a candidate with SAICA articles with audit training experience or a SAIPA candidate with an interest in international tax and research.
  2. The candidate must have had exposure to taxation during their articles training.
  3. A keen interest in International Taxation.
  4. Good understanding of IAS 12 – Income Taxes (Deferred Tax in particular).
  5. Requires the ability to perform independent research to resolve tax matters.
  6. Strong Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint usage.
  7. Willingness to learn and develop.
  8. Organised and attention to detail.
  9. The ability to work independently as well as in teams within other areas of the Finance group.
  10. Strong communication skills.
