ABOUT THE ROLE
Within 3Degrees’ Utility Partnership division, the Utility Solutions team designs and manages complex projects and programs to help electric and natural gas utilities offer their customers easy, accessible options to address climate impact. As a member of the team, you will support our clients which include some of the largest and most innovative utilities across the country. As an industry leader, we’ve always got our eye on product innovation and continuous improvement.
In this role, you’ll be a trusted advisor and key account manager, driving successful client relationships throughout the program lifecycle. You’ll strategically manage program implementation, budget, timeline, and resources while fostering successful customer acquisition tactics. As the primary point of contact, you will effectively nurture client relationships, collaborate with internal experts, and lead cross-functional teams to ensure high-quality product delivery, including oversight of contract renewals, and successful navigation of the evolving energy landscapes. 
This is a full-time, exempt role reporting to the Associate Director, Utility Solutions. Candidates would preferably be located in the Pacific Time Zone. However, a remote office location in other regions of the U.S. will be considered for highly qualified candidates who are open to traveling periodically to 3Degrees' offices for training or team collaboration and to conferences and customers as required. Frequency and cadence are team-dependent, but on average, 1-6 times annually.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
As the Senior Program Manager, you are the driving force behind the success of the relationship with utility clients and their contracts with 3Degrees. Your responsibilities span four core functions:
External Client Relationship Management:
  • Act as a trusted advisor, understanding utility goals, business opportunities, and risks
  • Plan and facilitate regular client engagements, including weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual meetings
  • Align expectations, ensure clear success metrics, and diplomatically challenge counterparts for optimal solutions
  • Ensure compliance with evolving utility and regulatory requirements as defined in the contract agreement
Strategic Program Management:
  • Oversee diverse deliverables, including strategic account planning, internal and external reporting, marketing campaigns, client requests, regulatory compliance, and serving as the subject-matter expert
  • Collaborate with multiple stakeholders to identify program priorities and growth opportunities, creatively problem-solve, and develop clear plans for solutions
  • Manage marketing and outreach sales plans to educate customers and oversee contract renewals and expansions
360 Team Leadership: 
  • Provide visionary influence and enable the 3Degrees internal team, including dedicated leads from 3Degrees Marketing and Outreach Sales, to successfully meet or exceed client expectations while balancing 3Degrees’ goals
  • Effectively coordinate with internal stakeholders, including Legal, Finance, IT, and Leadership, to set up the internal program team for success
  • Offer proactive communication about client and internal expectations, facilitate conversations, provide early feedback, and define roles and responsibilities
Project, Data, and Financial Management:
  • Accurately forecast program enrollments, total sales, and associated expenses
  • Deliver on contract goals while closely managing to forecasted P&L
  • Provide clear roadmaps with detailed instructions for internal teams and clients to follow
  • Ensure the secure exchange and handling of sensitive utility customer data
  • Oversee data management processes across account activities to ensure accuracy and compliance with 3Degrees’ and the utility’s data security standards
ABOUT YOU
The ideal candidate for this role is a seasoned external client manager with a proven track record in managing large, complex accounts, demonstrating exceptional attention to detail, strong communication, and interpersonal skills. With experience managing clients with high expectations, conflict management, and assessing opportunities, you should be adept at persuading clients onto a successful journey, managing a portfolio of over $30M potential while engaging in daily client interactions, meetings, and occasional travel. In addition, we believe that an individual with the following experience will have the best opportunity for success in this role:
  • 10+ Years of Relevant Experience:
    • Demonstrated experience in account or external client management, marketing, or significant experience leading complex, cross-functional programs across diverse stakeholder groups
    • Preference for candidates with utility/energy or Fortune 500 experience
  • Demonstrated Success in Leading Complex Projects:
    • Proven track record in leading projects with large, complex, and demanding stakeholder groups
    • Preferred experience in change management
  • Excellent Communication Skills:
    • With an emphasis on active listening and developing a shared vision of expectations
    • Demonstrated expertise in written, verbal, and presentation skills to address both small and large audiences
  • Ability to Thrive in a Fast-Paced Environment:
    • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, demanding environment while maintaining high standards of quality and professionalism
  • Cost Management Experience:
    • Specifically managing a budget/P&L with a subscription-based product
  • Collaborative Teamwork Capacity:
    • Proven ability to collaborate effectively within a team, generating buy-in without direct authority while providing guidance for the team's success
  • B2C Customer Acquisition and Retention:
    • Demonstrated success in developing and executing effective B2C customer acquisition, client delivery, and client retention strategies
  • Expertise or Willingness to Develop Expertise:
    • Specifically in utility program marketing, subscription models, renewable energy products & markets, and B2C sales & marketing
  • Data Management and Analysis Skills:
    • Demonstrated ability to work with large data sets, including fluency in basic MS Excel functionalities, pivot tables, conditional formatting, and advanced filtering/sorting
    • Experience with Tableau preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Relevant Experience:
    • Bachelor’s degree in business, energy, environment, or related field; or relevant experience
HOW WE DEFINE SUCCESS
As a senior member of our team, we will look to you to independently lead the strategy and administration of the major accounts you are assigned within 6 months.

Within 30 days,

  • You will have gained an understanding of the key priorities and deliverables for the major accounts you are assigned to, and have started to gain familiarity and working knowledge of the internal tools/processes necessary to deliver upon those
  • You will have started to work cross-functionally across 3Degrees, engaging and establishing relationships with key internal stakeholders, including but not limited to Marketing, Outreach, Operations, Environmental Markets, and Market Intelligence
  • You will have held introductory meetings with your key points of contact at the utility and started the relationships off on the right foot

Within 90 days,
  • You will have developed a detailed, practical understanding of the major accounts you are assigned to (including the services and deliverables 3Degrees is contracted to provide, budgets and financial targets, and internal tools and processes) and will be working with minimal supervision to manage those deliverables/tools/processes and answer questions related to them
  • You will have established a positive and trusted working relationship with your key points of contact at the utility, most importantly the utility program manager, and your key internal stakeholders, and will be actively collaborating with them to deliver on goals
  • You will have gained a functional knowledge of utility program offerings, the regulatory landscape in which they operate, and how 3Degrees has been successful supporting them
  • You will serve as primary planner and facilitator of client meetings and internal meetings related to your major accounts and will have a strong sense of the purpose of those meetings and how to achieve that
Within 6 months,
  • You will be independently owning and managing to forecasted P&L and delivering on client goals, including making trade-offs and adjusting goals as needed to maintain 3Degrees’ financial health and high client satisfaction
  • You will be guiding key internal stakeholders towards meeting stated goals, delivering high-quality services, and maintaining high customer satisfaction
  • You will be independently resolving most conflicts with clients and/or internal teams that may arise, and will understand when to escalate
  • You will have developed a deep understanding of the renewable energy/carbon offset programs segment and related regulatory issues, positioning yourself as a subject matter expert and consultative partner to utility customers

Within 1 year,

  • You will have fully integrated into your role, independently leading the strategy and administration of the major accounts assigned to you
  • You will demonstrate proficiency in managing deliverables, budgets, and financial targets with minimal supervision, making strategic trade-offs as needed to ensure high-quality services, client satisfaction, and financial sustainability
  • You will have established yourself as a trusted advisor to both internal stakeholders and key points of contact at utilities, effectively navigating relationships and collaborating to achieve mutual goals
  • You will be a subject matter expert on the renewable energy/carbon offset programs segment and related regulatory issues in order to successfully serve as a consultative partner to our utility customers
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
  • Compensation: The base salary range for this position is $70,000 to $121,000 in the US. The total compensation package for the successful candidate in this role may exceed the base pay as it includes other incentive pay. The base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as location, transferable or job-related skills, work experience, relevant training, business needs, and market demands. The base salary range is subject to change and may be modified in the future

  • Supplemental Pay: This position may be eligible to participate in discretionary bonus programs based on personal, department and company goals
