Program Overview
The XL Co-Op Program provides undergraduate students with hands-on experience in project engineering, construction management, and field operations. Co-Ops rotate through both office and field assignments to gain a broad understanding of construction project delivery.
This program is designed to complement academic coursework while building technical, professional, and leadership skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Support project teams in estimating, scheduling, and document control
- Assist with RFIs, submittals, and change order tracking
- Partner with superintendents in the field on site logistics, safety walks, and subcontractor coordination
- Participate in project meetings, taking notes and following up on action items
- Conduct quantity take-offs and cost tracking
- Assist in project close-out documentation
- Contribute to team culture, living XL’s We Not Me values
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the Co-Op, students will:
- Understand the lifecycle of a construction project from preconstruction through close-out
- Develop proficiency in construction technology tools (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project)
- Build foundational knowledge in safety, project controls, and technical engineering practices
- Strengthen teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills
Qualifications
- Pursuing a degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field
- Currently a sophomore, junior, or senior in a 4-year program OR enrolled in a technical school construction/engineering program
- Strong communication skills and eagerness to learn
- Ability to collaborate in both office and field settings
