Co-Op Project Engineer – XL Construction

Program Overview
The XL Co-Op Program provides undergraduate students with hands-on experience in project engineering, construction management, and field operations. Co-Ops rotate through both office and field assignments to gain a broad understanding of construction project delivery.
This program is designed to complement academic coursework while building technical, professional, and leadership skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support project teams in estimating, scheduling, and document control
  • Assist with RFIs, submittals, and change order tracking
  • Partner with superintendents in the field on site logistics, safety walks, and subcontractor coordination
  • Participate in project meetings, taking notes and following up on action items
  • Conduct quantity take-offs and cost tracking
  • Assist in project close-out documentation
  • Contribute to team culture, living XL’s We Not Me values

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the Co-Op, students will:
  • Understand the lifecycle of a construction project from preconstruction through close-out
  • Develop proficiency in construction technology tools (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project)
  • Build foundational knowledge in safety, project controls, and technical engineering practices
  • Strengthen teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills

Qualifications
  • Pursuing a degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field
  • Currently a sophomore, junior, or senior in a 4-year program OR enrolled in a technical school construction/engineering program
  • Strong communication skills and eagerness to learn
  • Ability to collaborate in both office and field settings
  • Commitment to XL’s values of integrity, collaboration, and service
