About Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G)

A rapid, large-scale transition is needed if global economic growth is to continue while simultaneously building resilient and sustainable societies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, adapt societies to climate change and promote a sustainable use of resources. This transition has the potential to unlock new growth engines and spur global economic growth. Since 2011 when Global Green Growth Forum (3GF) was initiated, the world has changed. Green growth has become a key concern for leading businesses, investors and key public institutions. A global framework has been established through the signing of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Financing Conference in Addis Ababa in July 2015 and the conclusion of the landmark Climate Agreement in Paris in 2015.

Multi sector partnership approaches have been increasingly recognized as the key vehicles for change. In response to these changes, governments of Chile, Denmark, Ethiopia, Kenya, Korea, Mexico, and Vietnam together with private business and international organizations have developed a new and ambitious international initiative “Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 – P4G” that was launched at an event in New York on 20th September 2017 to take effect on 01 January 2018. The initiative will be co-led by partners – governments, private business and international organizations. National platforms in partner countries will be anchoring national interventions and implementation while an International P4G Coordination Hub will be servicing the new initiative. The Hub will be independent but legally placed in World Resources Institute in close collaboration with New Climate Economy.

Breakthrough partnerships involving public and private sector actors constitute the heart of the P4G. P4G will facilitate and help develop public-private partnerships that contribute significantly to delivery of the 2030 Global Goals in key partner countries and with key partners by overcoming known barriers for green growth, demonstrating new solutions and facilitating the dissemination of solutions with the goal of scaling these solutions globally. P4G will also promote and influence the green growth agenda by rallying leaders from governments, cities, businesses, academia and civil society. High-level biennial Summits and cutting-edge knowledge produced by the P4G are essential means for bringing these partnerships to life and to scale.
