Energy Research Analyst_sustainable Investment Program

The Sustainable Investment Program aims to shift China’s domestic and overseas investment towards low-carbon and environmentally sustainable technologies and projects. We cooperate with global and domestic think tanks to provide science-based analysis, best practices and policy recommendations to key stakeholders with focus on promoting renewable energy investment, strengthening carbon evaluation of new investment and existing projects, and green finance.


To support the above work, we seek a Research Analyst to conduct science-based research on renewable energy investment policies and carbon evaluation, and come up with solid recommendation for China’s policy makers and investors to prioritize renewable energy;




The Research Analyst will carry out activities as below:

  • Author and publish WRI knowledge products such as reports, issue brief, working paper, etc. in both English and Chinese, and coordinate publication process;
  • Engage with experts and partners and work collaboratively on producing high quality research to support policy making;
  • Present research findings on workshops as needed;
  • Organize internal/external meetings, workshops, conferences, and other project dissemination activities;
  • Assist in project management work as needed;
  • Support fundraisings of the program, both in Beijing and global offices;
  • Support other activities as needed.



  • Master’s degree in energy engineering, energy policy and management, environmental engineering, environmental science and management, or related fields, PhD degree is a plus;
  • Two years’ work experience in climate and energy focused areas, such as energy planning, renewable energy, energy efficiency, energy policy, GHG accounting or GHG MRV, with known track record.
  • Strong qualitive and quantitative analytical skills;
  • Excellent research, analytical, writing, and presentation skills, preferably with publication experience;
  • Ability to work well in a team, manage multiple priorities, take initiative, and deliver under tight deadlines;
  • Ability to engage stakeholders, conduct interview and other research activities independently;
  • Fluency in written and spoken Mandarin and English;

Highly preferred

  • Experience in energy policy research, particularly the analysis of economic, social and environmental impacts of renewable energy and/or energy efficiency;
  • Knowledge of renewable energy technology and grid system;
  • Experience in distributed energy system;
  • Experience in GHG accounting and MRV
  • International experience, including working or studying aboard, or with multinational corporations and international NGOs.



Position Reports to: Environmental Management Lead, Sustainable Investment Program (Anchor Manager) and Associate, Sustainable Investment Program (Outcome Manager)
