Research Publication Coordinator
Program Overview
WRI Indonesia’s mission is to become the go-to research organization that supports scientific evidence and informed decision making based on sound and robust scientific methodology. Our research activity is a big part in achieving this goal. WRI Indonesia needs to have a solid research strategy to help in addressing the underlying problems across our programmatic activities. As the bedrock in our organization, the Research, Data, and Innovation unit needs to:
- Support the programmatic research activities especially by advising on research methods, strategies, and knowledge product development;
- Position WRI Indonesia as a nurturing institution where young talents –especially recent graduates and/or post-grad students—can advance their research skills and field experience;
- Support programs to generate and Integrate Data in WRI Indonesia – from the programs and their activities, WRI Indonesia will be able to extract data coming from past and current research activities, and make these data accessible to various stakeholders for decision-making on environmental issues;
- Strengthen WRI Indonesia’s profile as an independent national research institution and learning center on sustainable development.
Job Highlight
The Research Publication Coordinator will report directly to Research and Data Integrity Manager at WRI Indonesia and work closely with the larger RDI team and with program staff to manage and coordinate the knowledge product development process, ensuring the production of high-quality research outputs while optimizes for efficiency in time and resources.
This role has multiple dimensions, but with a primary responsibility of oversee the entire lifecycle of WRI Indonesia’s knowledge products ensuring all WRI-branded publication undergo a thorough peer- review process, involving both internal and external experts, to help ensure quality, accuracy, institutional coherence, and a lack of bias in our research. WRI measures the success of publications in terms of the quality of research and its ability to drive change in the world in ways that support our mission.
A key aspect of this role is facilitating collaboration between RDI team and program staff to ensure the research findings are transformed into actionable knowledge product that is aligned with WRI Indonesia’s programmatic research goals. To ensure the publications meet the organization’s standard for research integrity, ethical practice, and clear, effective communications, this position is required to quickly familiarize with WRI’s procedure, guidelines, and software platform related to the knowledge product development process.

What You Will Do
Knowledge Products Coordination and Administration (60% of time)
- Manage and administer the entire knowledge product lifecycle to ensure timely completion from development to publication
- Guide and assist staff through the peer review process for all WRI Indonesia-branded knowledge products, this includes coordinating with authors, reviewers, and editors to maintain quality.
- Collaborate with publication coordinators at RDI WRI Global Office.
- Track and update the status of all knowledge products on Weekly Pub Update.
- Draft the Quarterly Newsletter that highlights selected knowledge products published that quarter.
- Manage the allocation of knowledge products to copyeditors for ensuring quality, optimal speed, and cost efficiencies. This also requires liaising with our roster of consultants.
- Coordinate with program staff to track publications plans and upcoming knowledge product for review, updating RDI Manager and Lead on the progress.
- Work closely with WRI Indonesia’s Communications team on the knowledge product production process following the final approval by the RDI lead.
- Fielding and directing queries from WRI Indonesia colleagues about WRI’s extensive body of guidance related to the lifecycle of knowledge products.
- Resolve issues faced by staff with Editorial Manager and Asana platforms
- Respond to requests to RDI about tracking down guidance documents on WRI’s intranet, called Banyan.
Support and Participate in Research and knowledge sharing (30% of time)
- Assist the RDI Manager and Lead in organizing research-related events such as brown bags, research cafés, trainings, seminars and organization tasks.
- Provide support on RDI Indonesia initiatives and projects, including opportunities for participating in research and writing of publication/knowledge product.
- Assist Communications Team in fact-checking Communication Products based on published Knowledge Products.
Data and Knowledge Management (10% of time)
- Collaborate with the RDI manager to maintain WRI Indonesia’s research data repository or knowledge management system.
- Assist staff in accessing, utilizing and storing data, including in data repository and knowledge management system.
What You Will Need
- Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to environment and development, public policy, and related fields. Interdisciplinary training with undergraduate or master’s degrees that together provided training in the social and natural sciences or engineering disciplines relevant to the fields of development and sustainability.
- At least 3 (three) years of relevant experience in coordinating or managing policy-relevant research related to environment, development, public policy, and related fields. Evidence and interest in participating in research is an advantage.
- Demonstrated knowledge or proof of quickly adapting to the use of diverse data repository and knowledge management platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to support research teams, at different levels of research experience, with their publication needs.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a collegial and collaborative fashion in a fast-growing and diverse, multi-national organization.
- Excellent oral and written English and Bahasa Indonesia skills.

- Ability and willingness to travel as assigned.
- Legally able to work in Indonesia.

Contract Arrangement
Full-time with fixed-term employment agreement for 9 (nine) months period with 3 (three) months of consultancy contract apply before the fixed-term employment agreement started.

Must have authorization to work in Indonesia to be eligible for this position.
Final candidates might be required to take a writing test and to produce two writing samples when needed.
