The Work – How You Will Contribute

In alignment with Wallick’s Mission and Values, the Data Engineer will support the Director of Business Intelligence & Analytics to manage and evolve our enterprise data ecosystem. Our core infrastructure is established within Microsoft Fabric, providing a modern foundation for you to build upon.
As a key builder on a lean team, you will be responsible for maintaining this environment while being afforded the unique opportunity to collaboratively enhance and grow it to meet the future needs of our business. We are looking for a resourceful problem-solver with the ingenuity to build lean, sustainable systems. You thrive on finding the most effective path to a solution, ensuring our infrastructure remains agile and easy to maintain as we grow. You won’t just be following a blueprint; you will be empowered to design and incrementally scale an affordable infrastructure; essentially building a world in which you want to work.
This is a foundational role ideal for an early-career professional with a "roll-up-your-sleeves" attitude. If you are motivated to take initiative, gain critical high-level skills, and see your fingerprints on the organization’s long-term success, this role offers the perfect platform for your growth.

Qualifications Required:
  • Experience & Education: Entry-level to early-career (0–2 years) with a Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Data Analytics, Finance, Statistics, or Economics) or equivalent practical experience.
  • Technical Literacy: Proficiency in at least one modern data language or visualization tool (e.g., SQL, Tableau, Python, or R); experience with Power BI and DAX is preferred, but we value the ability to apply logical syntax and are committed to training the right candidate to become our in-house Power BI expert.
  • Analytical Mindset: A proven ability to apply critical thinking to complex datasets, moving beyond "what" the data says to uncover the "why" behind the numbers.
  • The "Builder" Trait: A proactive self-starter who demonstrates ingenuity and initiative. You are someone who enjoys not only building great tools but also documenting standards and naming conventions to ensure data is easy for everyone to find, understand, and trust
  • Communication Excellence: The ability to translate technical data findings into clear, simple, and actionable stories for non-technical business stakeholders.

Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Actionable Visualization & Refresh: Take ownership of existing reports to design and build high-impact Power BI dashboards that transform raw information into clear, consistent business stories with a unified look and feel.
  • Governance Foundation: Seize the opportunity to layer in data governance documentation (such as data dictionaries and naming standards) as you refresh our BI views, ensuring all reporting is built on a transparent and reliable foundation.
  • Data Insight Execution: Collaborate closely with the Data Engineer to "run with" streamlined data pipelines, applying an analytical mindset to identify the "why" behind business trends and anomalies.
  • Business Partnership: Act as a bridge between the data and the business; meet with stakeholders to understand their needs and proactively propose governed visual solutions that solve real-world problems.
  • Professional Growth Path: Take the initiative to learn the "how" behind the data—developing proficiency in SQL, DAX, and advanced modeling as you grow into a subject matter expert within our data ecosystem.
