Job Summary:

The Senior Manager Finance reports to the Senior Director Finance, Controllers Branch and manages the Controller functions of VONs legal entities. Roles reporting directly to this position include Finance Managers, Senior Financial Analysts, Financial Analysts and Finance Clerks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Hires, and provides orientation for new staff as required.
  • Ensures all staff receive PDP’s annually, assisting them with their professional development.
  • Coaches, advises, motivates and provides leadership to staff; creates a positive workplace for staff.
  • Oversees general accounting and financial reporting.
  • Preparation of operational budgets and forecasts including: support to the Site Operations departments and Finance Managers, or Corporate Services departments in preparing annual budgets.
  • Provides finance support to operational sites or corporate services departments.
  • Introduce and implement process changes due to ongoing process improvement and or system changes.
  • Lead the process for preparing monthly financial statements, ensuring accuracy and the achievement of the timelines as established monthly.
  • Attend finance meetings to support site operations or corporate services departments in their review of financial results and understanding actual variances to budget.
  • Ensure all balance sheets accounts are reconciled, analyzed and are fully supported with the appropriate audit evidence.
  • Lead the process for preparing external funder reporting and applicable KPIs, ensuring accuracy and the achievement of the funder due dates.
  • Lead the process to prepare all audit requirements and ensure they are accurately prepared and within the pre-established timelines.
  • Respond to questions from the auditors.
  • Preparation of the annual audit templates supporting the preparation of the annual audited financial statements.
  • Ensure the payroll vacation, stats, comp and flex banks in the payroll database are reconciled to the liabilities in the general ledger.
  • Ensure T3010’s are prepared for the applicable Community Corporations.
  • Participate as team member in project teams and committees as required, such the SAP working group, and priority projects.
  • Prepare complex financial analysis supporting operations and corporate services departments in their decision making processes as required.
  • Participate in the preparation of the quarterly forecasting process and provides support to Corporate Services departments.

Education, Designations and Experience:

  • Post-secondary degree in business, finance or accounting.
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA – CMA, CGA or CA).
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience, including managerial role in finance department.
  • Solid technical knowledge of Canadian accounting standards for not-for-profits organizations or private enterprises.
  • Experience in preparing budgets and forecasts.
  • Experience in preparing funder reports.
