Scope:
The Category Manager – New Product Development (CM) will be the lead for supply chain development on new products.  In coordination with Product Engineering and Product Development, the CM will analyze manufacturability, provide should cost modeling, and work with the global sourcing team to identify, approve, and implement strategies for product launch.  They identify new technologies for manufacturing to drive best cost solutions.  The CM builds and leverages strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and suppliers to ensure cost, quality, and delivery targets are met for all NPD projects.  The CM ensures supply assurance and dual sourcing strategies are implemented on all projects prior to launch.
Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement supply chain strategies for all new product development initiatives.
  • Identify areas of concern for manufacturability and work with Engineering to address.
  • Develop and maintain should cost models.
  • Research and identify new technologies to support product development and prototyping needs.
  • Act as Project Manager for sourcing related tasks within the NPD process by coordinating all sourcing and supplier qualification activities on a global basis.
  • Manage multiple projects, coordinate activities of team and track progress/schedules.
  • Improve processes for Sourcing to shorten the NPD process and meet or exceed product launch timing milestones.
  • Collaborate with Category Management to ensure supply strategies are best cost and minimal risk.
  • Monitor current Category market conditions, technology roadmaps and identify supply/demand challenges and opportunities.
  • Develop subject matter expertise in assigned areas through external research, benchmarking and analyzing cost drivers and life cycle costs. Provide market intelligence and Category price trends. Develop deep understanding where our competition sources their components and materials, as well as determining the respective costs of same.  
Qualifications:   (Education, Experience, and Personal Attributes)

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Engineering, or Supply Chain Management from an accredited college or university is required.
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant, progressive Strategic Sourcing, Category Management or equivalent work experience and expertise.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of strategic sourcing process and tools.
  • Demonstrated Project Management skills with a focus in new product development.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead teams attaining cross-functional consensus.
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels – clearly articulate position with clarity at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work with key stakeholders in multiple global locations and at various levels.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving abilities through the use of contemporary tools and methods.
  • Willing to travel up to 25%.
