Role: Shop Steward – Training Facility
Scope:
Working within a shop environment, performing all functions necessary to maintain operational readiness. This includes proper inventory, storage and maintenance of all training tools and materials.
Shop Steward is responsible for the overall coordination, setup, and logistical support of all hands-on training classes held at the facility. This role ensures that all equipment, tools, and materials are maintained in optimal condition, class areas are prepared and broken down efficiently, and that all students and instructors have the resources needed for effective training.
RESPONSIBILITIES to include but not limited to
As directed, perform inventory control of all tools and materials. This includes but is not limited to:
Classroom and Shop Area Setup & Breakdown
- Complete setup and tear down of classroom and hands-on training areas before and after each session.
- Prepare pipe cutting stations, stage necessary materials and equipment for each course
- Ensure safety and cleanliness of all classrooms and shop spaces.
Material & Inventory Management
- Pipe stock inventory shall be organized, and minimum stocking levels of pipe will be controlled by the inventory system.
- Product stock inventory shall be organized, and minimum stocking levels of all couplings, fittings and accessories will be controlled by the inventory system.
Tool & Equipment Maintenance
- Maintain and ensure operational readiness of all grooving tools and mechanical equipment used in classes.
- Perform routine inspections, cleaning, and minor repairs as needed.
- Keep the tool storage room organized and ensure all hand and power tools are readily available and in good working condition.
Product Quality Control
- Inspect all training materials and components to ensure they are in good condition and meet training standards.
- Remove and report any damaged or defective items from inventory.
Logistics & Support Services
- Manage catering and food service for each class, ensuring timely delivery and setup.
- Support instructors and students with any hands-on build activities or class needs during training sessions.
Administrative Support
- Maintain accurate records of inventory, maintenance logs, and supply usage.
- Assist with classroom setup including AV equipment and inventory of all course materials.
Required Skills and Competencies:
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to operate tools.
- Forklift experience preferred but not required
- Experience with inventory control and material handling.
- Ability to lift and move heavy materials safely.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Valid driver's license
- Preferred but not required: Proficient in blueprint reading, shop math and precision instrument operation (measurement instruments such as calipers, diameter measuring tapes, etc.)
