Group Product Manager

Product Management United States

Description

Uplight is creating a new category of energy. We make software that manages energy resources in homes and businesses—including things like smart thermostats, electric vehicles, solar panels, storage batteries, heat pumps, and even people’s behavior—to generate, shift, or save energy to balance the grid, making it more efficient and reliable. This creates clean energy capacity that can be used by the power grid instead of burning more fossil fuels. Our solutions accelerate the transition to clean energy and save money for energy customers
We are seeking a Group Product Manager (GPM), Data Platform to own Uplight’s Data Platform and drive its evolution as a foundational and customer-enabling capability across the product portfolio. This role reports directly to the VP of Product and is designed for a senior product leader who combines strong technical depth with people leadership and thrives at translating platform strategy into high-impact, shipped outcomes.
In this role, you will be accountable for the vision, roadmap, and execution of the Data Platform, partnering closely with Engineering, Data Science, and Product peers to ensure the platform reliably enables Uplight’s applications, analytics, and machine learning capabilities, while increasingly delivering direct, customer-facing value.
How you will make an impact:
  • Own the Data Platform end-to-end, with accountability for strategy execution, roadmap delivery, and outcomes
  • Report to the VP of Product and operate as the senior product owner for platform capabilities
  • Lead a team of product managers
  • Balance strategic ownership with hands-on delivery leadership
  • Partner closely with cross-functional leaders while maintaining clear product accountability
What you get to do:
Data Platform Ownership and Execution
  • Own and drive the vision, roadmap, and execution of Uplight’s Data Platform, including ingestion pipelines, governance, observability, analytics enablement, and developer tooling
  • Translate platform strategy into clear roadmaps, milestones, and measurable outcomes aligned with company and product priorities
  • Ensure the platform delivers trusted, high-quality, well-governed data that scales across products, customers, and regions
  • Balance foundational platform investments with incremental delivery that supports near-term product and customer needs
Customer and Product Enablement
  • Partner with application product teams to ensure the Data Platform effectively enables customer-facing analytics, APIs, BI, and data-driven features
  • Evolve the platform as a developer platform, improving time-to-value through APIs, tooling, and reusable capabilities
  • Identify, validate, and help launch data-driven product opportunities, contributing to experimentation, pilots, and early releases
Cross-Functional Leadership
  • Work closely with Engineering and Data Science leaders to align on technical direction, sequencing, and delivery tradeoffs
  • Collaborate with Go-to-Market, Customer Success, and Solutions teams to ensure platform investments translate into measurable customer impact
  • Define, track, and communicate KPIs related to adoption, reliability, data quality, and downstream business outcomes
  • Act as the primary product counterpart for platform-related initiatives across the organization
People Leadership
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of product managers
  • Set clear expectations, delivery rhythms, and strong product management practices
  • Contribute to hiring, onboarding, and talent development within the Product organization
  • Foster a collaborative, high-trust environment that supports sustainable execution and continuous improvement

Technical and Platform Expertise:
  • Strong understanding of modern data architectures, including lakehouse concepts, ingestion pipelines, governance, observability, analytics, and machine learning enablement
  • Comfort engaging deeply with engineering teams on architectural decisions, technical tradeoffs, and delivery sequencing
Product and Business Orientation
  • Experience translating platform capabilities into tangible customer value through analytics, APIs, embedded insights, or enablement of downstream products
  • Ability to prioritize work that balances long-term platform health with near-term business impact
Collaborative Leadership
  • Proven ability to influence across product, engineering, and business stakeholders through clarity, alignment, and execution
  • Systems thinker who understands how data ingestion, governance, analytics, and applications connect to customer and business outcomes
People Leadership Readiness
  • Experience leading senior product managers or acting as a player-coach on complex initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability to grow talent while maintaining a strong focus on delivery and outcomes
What you bring to Uplight:
  • 7 to 10 years of Product Management experience
  • Hands-on technical background or extensive experience partnering closely with engineering and data teams
  • Proven experience with data platforms, ingestion systems, analytics and BI, governance, machine learning enablement, and developer tooling; experience with Databricks or similar platforms is a plus
  • Track record of delivering complex platform initiatives that support multiple products, teams, or customers
  • Strong communication skills and comfort operating in fast-moving, evolving environments
  • Experience in energy, SaaS, data, or adjacent technology domains is preferred
