Senior Technical Designer
Description
- Responsible for fit, construction, quality, and consistency of assigned product category from development to production, including:
- Attending development handover meetings and creating initial specs
- Leading fits and issuing clear and concise fit comments
- Communicate effectively with domestic and overseas vendors to address technical issues, fit corrections, and construction techniques.
- Adjusting patterns when necessary.
- Reviewing and maintaining apparel construction and quality standards.
- Identify potential quality or fit issues early in the development cycle and work proactively with vendors to address them
- Reviewing and maintaining Torrid grade and tolerance standards
- Utilize 3D design software to create virtual prototypes, enhance visualization and enable early adjustments for fit and design intent.
- Partner with Sr Director of TD as an advocate for 3D integration and DPC into the development life cycle, improving accuracy & efficiency
- Must have the ability to be forward thinking and make decisions independently
- Attend meetings with Merchants, PD, and design weekly to review work in progress, best and worst sellers and discuss updates and changes for the week within each category.
- Mentors and assists assistant/ associate technical designers.
- Comprehensive knowledge of fit, balance, pattern grading, garment construction and the manufacturing process.
- Strong understanding of fabric properties and performance standards.
- Advanced proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, PLM systems (Centric, PDM, or similar), Gerber or 2D patternmaking software, and 3D design software (CLO 3D, Browzwear/V-Stitcher, etc.)
- Excellent Communication and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience collaborating with overseas vendors and managing fit process with overseas partnerships.
- Bachelor's degree in fashion design, apparel production or textiles preferred.
- 5+ years of technical design or pattern making experience, preferably in women’s apparel
